Come to Bard NYC!!!

This has probably been my best semester in college so far. After spending 1.5 years upstate, being in the city feels so fun and different. Taking classes while doing an internship gives you a real taste of balancing student life with work life. If you enjoy city living, this program is perfect for you. Williamsburg is such an amazing neighborhood — when the weather warms up, everything becomes so lively and beautiful. Plus, the location is super convenient for getting around the city. Meeting all the friends from everywhere is also very cool.

Great Program

This program has allowed for me to balance between school and career beautifully, especially because I had a remote position for my internship. The building space is beautiful; the courses I took were both challenging and instrumental for my growth as a learner and person in general. The only con is that arts majors have a harder time finding internships, and I had to find one without too much help. Other than that everything went pretty smoothly. The independence I gained traveling the city for career ventures, school related trips, or personal journeys made everything more exciting as well.

Pros
  • Balance between school and career
  • Independence for city life
  • Great professors
Cons
  • Finding internship by myself
  • Unpaid internship (unrelated to the program)
  • Cleanliness of shared spaces from peers

120 Days of Growth

Bard NYC was by far the best period in college so far. Yes, period, as in referring to an era - that is how much of an impact it had on me. Having the opportunity to intern and study in the city, while living in a very boujee and hip neighborhood of NYC - as an international student - was truly amazing. Getting to discover the renewable energy industry at my internship, while learning about foreign policy, while taking a Food Microbiology class, and learning to navigate the NYC subway system, were just some of the many things I got to do.

What was your funniest moment?
A lot of my funniest moments in NYC involve taking the wrong subway, or taking the subway at night with other students from BGIA.
Pros
  • Growth
  • Challenges
  • Lots of opportunities to connect with people
Cons
  • Paying to do laundry

Best Experience in my life!

Studying at Bard in New York was the absolute best experience in my life! At Bard NYC I took an international relations and democracy courses that truly helped me understand those fields better! Bard NYC organized a visit from all of the UN departments that I truly valued.
Living in New York was such an amazing experience, especially since the staff at Bard NYC were so helpful with their tips on how to make the best of this experience, the internship and building a network that will benefit me later.
Bard NYC offers you a combination of safety while exploring a new city, amazing internships, and a great education.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have talked to BGIA staff about their Masters of Global Studies program (MAGS) as I am interested in pursuing, but I was informed of it after I came back from New York. I would have gone to more professional network events so I can get to know more people since I aim to pursue my Master's degree in New York. I would have organized a whole week to visit universities I am interested in pursuing my Master's degree at, even though my main goal is pursuing the MAGS program at BGIA.

Bard NYC

The Bard NYC experience was almost surreal. Being a psychology major it really gave me a chance to explore the more economical and corporate side of work which helped me gain a lot of clarity as to what I wanted for my career. Other than that just being in NYC during the spring semester is fun itself. The social events organised by Bard NYC were really fun and this semester opened me up to a lot of new experiences and learning to navigate a new city in a new country it just the best kind of adventure to have.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not be afraid to network and go upto people you think are interesting and talk to them.
