Global Growth Mindset

The one thing I took away from Bonbillos incredible program is my new found confidence in global thinking.

It showed me that, as a young South African techpreneur, I am more than able to compete with my international age mates.

You don’t have to go to an ivy-league for a “world class business education”. Just jump into the race and run. Throughout the whole program I was constantly surprised at how much I was learning. Proof that there is no one standard way to become a successful entrepreneur.

What would you improve about this program?
More startup (site) visits!!! It was great seeing and hearing successful stories from young successful entrepreneurs.

An Invaluable Experience

The Bootcamp far exceeded any expectations I had. The quality of the content and the people delivering was top class and I feel I grew in ways I did not know I could. The excursions fostered relationships between us as participants which was great. It was an invaluable experience and I am grateful to have been a part!
My entrepreneurial lens was widened and my perspective was stretched. Collaborating with other start-ups and seeing the synergies in our respective journeys brought about great learning.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared for a life changing journey as an entreprenuer!

Business, Growth & Good Times

During the week we would work really hard on our business operations. It was an adventure. Leaving the house every morning around 8:30 not knowing what time exactly are we coming back. We are passionate about the problems we are solving so it wasn't problem. What's interesting the most is the amount of fun we had in between the hard work. We went out for dinner with Suraj and the teams, visited the Robbin Island took interesting tours on Sight Seeing buses. I witnessed how beautiful Cape Town is.

What was your funniest moment?
On a Friday night, me and my two friends(Panya & Jabu) I made in Cape Town decided to go for a walk on long street, it was supposed to be a less than 15 minutes but it took us for hours. We ended up attending Karaoke sessions and then we went clubbing and we became part of a popular rapper's entourage. All in one night!

Great Programme

Really awesome enjoyable experience. High learning environment mixed with a lot of fund and travel. Highly recommended. We had a lot of high impact, rapid fire rounds of lectures, activities and a pitch/demo day to potential investors. We also visited local startups: LULA and YOCO who shared their journey on how they built their companies. Every startup needs to go through a programme such as this where it gives exposure to international content on how to build a business with a mix of local startup learnings.

What would you improve about this program?
The programme was great and well planned, I have no points of improvement.

Business, learning & lots of fun

Working with BonBillo has been an amazing experience. I'm grateful for having BonBillo on board they are just as committed to make CarPark, the venture I have found a success. I really liked how they pushed me towards the right direction about the problem we are trying to solve. We have build an application that allows drivers to find their cars in crowded or unfamiliar parking lots. In the boot-camp we invested in the business development side of our product and various ways of creating value for all the stakeholders.

I also got a chance to learn a lot about my country's history and I also experienced the beauty of South Africa, the Table Mountain, Robbin Island and the various beaches in Cape Town.

What was your funniest moment?
After a long week of work me and my friends(Jabu & Panya) went for a walk around the block on Long Street. The walk turned into an adventure and we came back after 4 hours(4:00am). We went to various karaoke hang outs and we ended being part of rapper's crew.

What is your favorite travel memory?

During my first visit to Cape Town in 2017, I had the opportunity to visit Table Mountain, cycle from Sea Point to Camps Bay along stunning beaches, and take a red bus tour of the city. I spent some time at the Waterfront exploring the beautiful artisan shops, outdoor cafes and listening to the local bands playing. I’d highly recommend a visit to anyone thinking about their next vacation.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

BonBillo has provided me an incredible opportunity to grow as a person. I feel a strong sense of purpose aligned to my work, which is the most rewarding feeling. We believe that growth comes out of your comfort zone and are constantly looking to challenge ourselves. I've had the opportunity to dive deeper into several aspects of social entrepreneurship to help create the best program possible for our participants.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Azra Fredericks, a recent participant in our Boston Spring Impact Accelerator, recently blogged about how the program contributed to her professional and personal growth and skills development. It's exceedingly rewarding to see our participants grow through their journey.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I'd recommend the Cape Town Impact Bootcamp to launch a social impact startup contributing towards the Sustainable Development Goals. You get local context and challenges, a proven framework for rapidly designing and testing a solution, access to top advisors and industry experts, an accomplished peer group, a vibrant workspace, residence and local excursions in a stunning city.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

We aspire to offer the best social entrepreneurship training to help entrepreneurs launch and grow social impact startups. We believe people, planet, and profit thrive together.

Our recent Boston Impact Accelerator Demo Day in Boston was when I was especially proud of our team. We got to celebrate the hard work and progress of our cohort and the team over the last 3 months culminating with excellent pitches.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe the biggest factor contributing to a successful company is a high-performing complementary team with shared values aligned around a strong common purpose. We have a strong focus on leadership and teamwork in our programs as it plays a key component in long-term success. The key traits that we believe are necessary for entrepreneurial success are self-awareness, perseverance and being proactive.
