The best time of my life

I had the absolute best 4 months of my life. The people, teachers and the school were all just absolutely lovely. I met the best people of my life. The lifestyle and energy of the Spanish people was a big plus. At school everyone was nice from start to finish, there was never a day when I felt a bad vibe from anyone at school. They were always helpful and only tried to get the best out of you with helping you where ever you needed them. The lessons were very varied. As the teachers changed every week or second week, you could always experience and learn a different Spanish language.

What was your funniest moment?
The clases with Ana 10/10.
Pros
  • The people are gentle
  • The beach AND the city at the same time
  • the energy of the lifestyle
Cons
  • the air unhealthy
  • the water is dirty

Poor customer service

School maybe is nice, but I doubt. I paid for intensive courses, however the situation with Covid-19 has changed, so I have requested refund. They first refused to refund even single dollar, and after they have started to ignore any my request (via phone, WhatsApp, email etc...).,The only thing they advised is to wait in the country, where quarantine has started and where was impossible to find a flat.

However, even refund was requested in advance.

Unfortunately, in this hard times, they were unable to provide you even with minimum sympathy.

Please avoid !

Response from Expanish

¡Hola, Nick! We are sorry that you were not satisfied with the customer service at Expanish. I believe it was related to classes going online during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was the solution to our programming given our study center was forced to shut down temporarily. We would love to have you back at Expanish in the future so get in touch with our team and we can talk about returning post-pandemic to see all the improvements to our programs. ¡Saludos!

My experience at Expanish

I studied for 20 weeks at Expanish and had a great time there! I started with zero knowledge of Spanish before I came to Buenos Aires and now I can communicate very well with all residents and people from all over the world. The lessons were very well structured with great and heart-warming teachers. In my time I had 3 different teachers and they were all very good! Always willing to listen and there was always time for fun in the lessons! Many thanks to Pablito, Angeles and Gisela!

The school itself looks very modern with good facilities. Expanish offers many free activities to connect with other students and explorer Buenos Aires in different ways. Because of this kind of activities, I have met so many people from all over the world! Expanish is a perfect combination of learning Spanish and making friends. The staff was also very nice and helpful! If I had any questions, Milva (the receptionist) was always willing to help me. Even with things that had nothing to do with the school and Gabriel (the director of the academy) was one of the nicest persons I have ever met in my life. Always willing to listen, interested and happy.

There are literally no bad words to say about Expanish after my 5 months studying here and I would highly recommend the school to everyone!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The people there drink and share mate. For me I needed to get used to it because I have never saw something like that

Great teachers, fun atmosphere

I am really enjoying my time at Expanish so far! My teacher has been fantastic, not only with grammar but also because he incorporates local customs and slang into our lessons each day. For example, for the past week we have all been drinking mate all morning during class. The staff here are friendly and helpful with planning trips outside of BA and there are all kinds of activities to do after class. The location of the school is central and it is so much fun learning Spanish alongside students from all over the world. Come study here!

What would you improve about this program?
Smaller class sizes

What is your favorite travel memory?

I have many favorite travel memories but most recently I spent the New Year in Bariloche in the South of Argentina. It is a picturesque area of Patagonia, filled with blue lakes, never-ending forests and incredible mountain views. I spent a full 10 days hiking and exploring the region. My favorite moment was spending the night in a refugio (or cabin) at the top of a mountain peak with the most breathtaking views of glaciers and meeting the other hikers from all over the world. It was a one-of-a-kind experience that I will never forget. Although I have lived in Argentina for many years, I had never made it to the south previously and I am so happy I did. I plan on returning as often as I can.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Like many leaders at big companies or small startups, what I think makes a company successful is the people. The staff at Expanish is incredible and I think they are what make us a great organization. We have first-class facilities and provide first-rate services, but what students remember the most are the relationships they create with their Spanish professors, our front desk staff and our activity and group coordinators. Although we receive over 1200 students per year, we are a close-knit team who strive to make sure all students feel like family. Expanish would not be what it is today without the awesome people that work here.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I started out at Expanish as a program advisor helping students prepare for their journey in Latin America. Just five years later I am now managing the operations of our school and all of the study abroad programs we run. I have now had experiences with students and universities from all over the world and feel that the last 5 years have been an incredible professional growth experience. I hope to continue to make long-lasting connections with students and university staff to help promote study abroad in the region. Latin America has so much to offer and I would love to see programs grow in Argentina and beyond.

What unique qualities does your company possess?

Latin America is not always the most organized place so it is always an adventure running a company and organizing programs. We have an international team that helps maintain a really high level of organization and quality that is not common in the service industry in Argentina so we are very proud that our partners feel confident with the programs we have organized for their students.

Since we are a Spanish school we also have an established infrastructure and building that allows us to provide a great space for students and faculty alike. Here we hold orientations and classes and we really like that students hang out in our common areas during their free time as we want Expanish to be a home away from home.

Describe a time when you felt especially proud to be part of your current team.

We recently had a 17-year-old Brazilian student study with us and stay in a homestay. His parents were understandably worried about his international trip alone and how he would handle Buenos Aires. Our staff went above and beyond to help him feel comfortable in the city. We took him to and from his homestay on the first day, checked in with him frequently about activities he wanted to do and how his classes were going and showed him (and his parents) that we are here to support his overall experience. By the end of his 2-week stay, he was loving the city and classes and is already planning on returning next summer break. I love it when our staff gives personalized attention to students and they leave Argentina with great memories and a desire to return.
