Tell us about yourself, Richard.

After graduating with a degree in Business Management, I worked with GlaxoSmithKline in Kenya as a Sales Rep. I then spent a year and a half working at the German Embassy Consular office handling logistics, and University of Washington Kenya Research before joining Global Electives Port Ltd office in 2015.

I have done a variety of roles for projects in different companies including desk officer, operations manager and country director for Kenya in medical electives. I now manage the operations team in Africa and oversee all of our projects around the world, supervises the preparation of placement, volunteers and supervise our destination staff in all of our destination countries. I am directly responsible for director level professionals in the region as well as clerical and other professional regional direct reports. In my spare time I enjoy traveling with my family, going to gigs, playing sports, and snorkeling.

What is your favorite travel memory?

An excursion trip to Maasai Mara. I observed the famous Big Five and how game life is. It was an interesting escapade and quite a fascinating memory to relive.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have improved my understanding of and working relationship with international students and am amazed by their passion to gain insightful experience in remote contexts with respect to the prevalence of certain diseases and illnesses that require real-time experience and interventions. I have developed team building skills and tolerance to different cultural orientations that make people unique and different.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Many students have appreciated our programs and the most outstanding example of this was when a medical student from Germany testified that our program enhanced his communication skills, improved his ability to appreciate and mingle with people from different cultures, improved his ability to work in remote places with scant resources to help save lives and the fact that he encountered different conditions that he would have not encountered had he not undertaken his electives with us.

He also enjoyed the excursion sites and the beautiful scenery he saw together with very supportive and hospitable hosts. These were positives from our interaction with him that positively sells our programs.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Our programs are all tailor-made to suit the specific preferences of students based on their specific professional and academic requirements. All the programs have met the threshold of excellent standards that give all our clients value for their money. I would, therefore, choose any of them because they are all offered within the confines of excellence.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our company is based on the understanding that customer needs become the engine that drives our operations. Satisfaction and excellent service delivery that guarantees our clients quality products and services is a feature that makes us stand out from the rest of our competitors. We also offer affordable services that consider interests of all our clients.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

The driving tenets of a successful company are the contributions made by the stakeholders and all the people involved in the company. Their commitment, hard work, dedication and passion for excellence propels them to put more effort in their endeavors to ensure success abounds.
