I’m living the dream

I was tired of living in the same place and wanted to travel around Asia but didn’t know how to do it. I saw a photo of Thailand on Instagram and decided I needed to make the trip and make it my new home. After some research I decided to work with Teach English ESL and it was the best decision of my life. Jessica Hill, the agent that guided me through the program, helped me every single step of the way and got me to where I am today. She was very nice and responsive and always eager to help no matter how stupid or small the question was. Now I am living in Thailand, happier than ever, and I couldn’t have done it any better way.

Highly recommend for those looking for a TESOL/TEFL certificate that works in any country

TeachEnglish: ESL facilitated enrolling me in an International TEFL Academy (ITA) TESOL/TEFL certification course in Costa Rica, which I just completed in May 2016. The value was great and there was a lot of flexibility with course date offerings. Jessica Hill of TeachEnglish: ESL was very available and answered all my questions prior to registration. The course itself is an ITA course administered by Costa Rica TESOL (https://www.facebook.com/Costa.Rica.TESOL.TEFL/?fref=ts), and is internationally accredited. With that ITA certificate, you can teach anywhere.

The course is rigorous, and includes 180 hours of class and 10 hours of practicum; this is well above most other standard TEFL certification course offerings so you are sure to surpass most if not every country's minimum certification requirements. Don't anticipate free time during the course; it is FULL-TIME. Nonetheless, I loved every minute and I highly recommend this course. The institute is located in Barva, in the Heredia province of Costa Rica. I stayed with a homestay and loved it, especially my host mom's cooking.

I was not planning to stay in Costa Rica, but for those who are, there is TONS of job assistance and several of my peers already found jobs with the help of the Costa Rica TESOL instructors and ITA job assistance (which is guaranteed for life). And because this is through the ITA, they have tons of lifelong job assistance for anyone looking to work anywhere.

This course was well worth the investment of time and money. I loved the instructors, small class sizes, materials, and practicum.

Great Experience

The 3-week TEFL course in Bangkok was absolutely worth it. I met a ton of new people and made memories that will last a lifetime. The course helped me easily transition to life in Thailand. Jessica did a phenomenal job of answering all of my questions and concerns throughout the entire process.

What would you improve about this program?
AYC need better placement information packets.

Great course and helpful staff!

This 3-week course in Bangkok was a great way to get TESOL certified and also be able to explore Thailand and meet new people.

Jessica was very helpful throughout the whole process, always answering emails in a timely manner, and offering her own personal advice!

What would you improve about this program?
I wish more books were included with the course. But they do email you links/stuff online.

Great Course, Great Support

Jessica does a really good job of helping you prepare before you go overseas and she helps you just as much when you are actually in Thailand. She was very professional and I recommend her to anyone.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My absolute favorite travel memory is difficult to pin down, so I’ll split it between two trips.

I would say seeing Paris, France for the second time in 2016 will always stick out in my mind. There is an energy there that I resonate with — the food, the culture, the architecture — all of it! It helps that I also got engaged on that trip, too, on top of the Eiffel Tower!

Second and more recently, I’ve had the privilege of visiting Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, as well as a few of its surrounding towns such as Panajachel, San Pedro, and Santa Cruz. It is a truly gorgeous place! Seeing the blue-green color of the water from a kayak, admiring the lush landscape, and meeting kind and generous people feels special each time, and makes me feel lucky to be alive.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

My experience with working for Teach English: ESL has expanded my knowledge on how to make traveling and teaching English abroad a reality for the average person. People often think it takes a lot to commit to a program or job overseas (and it does) or that it could never happen to them, but if they knew what was waiting for them on the other side, they’d never bat an eye!

I’ve learned more about the rewards of taking the leap to teach English abroad, and I feel inspired every day to be working for a company who truly values its participants.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would choose the Thailand TEFL course in a heartbeat! I can’t imagine a better way to discover Thai culture (and gorgeous landscapes!) than by immersing myself in Krabi or Chiang Mai for a few weeks while advancing my career. It seems like the perfect way to get your feet wet in a place you’ll undoubtedly want to stay in.

Speaking of staying there, the fact that you receive job placement after finishing the course is a crucial reason I’d choose this program if I could. I mean, what’s the number one thing you hear from friends or family after they’ve visited?

They didn’t want to leave.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

I think what makes Teach English: ESL unique is that Jessica Hill, the founder, has the experience of teaching English abroad to back up the quality and quantity of courses and jobs she chooses to offer. There’s no better person to help guide you through the application process, share stories of her experiences in Asia, and to demonstrate the rewards of teaching English abroad! Teach English: ESL isn’t a giant recruiting agency: it’s a small-scale company that invests in you personally.

I was especially proud of our team when we finished a brochure about our TEFL courses in Thailand. It’s such a beautiful product in itself, but will also help exhibit the benefits and excitement surrounding these courses in Krabi and Chiang Mai!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe the biggest factor in a successful company is excellent communication. Whether that communication is between clients, prospective clients, customers, team members, or viewers—it all has to be clear, accurate, and absolutely electric in order for things to run smoothly. Each individual involved needs to know where they stand, how they can improve, what they’re excelling at, and the benefits of joining the Teach English: ESL community.

My position focuses on how best to communicate the benefits and advantages of choosing Teach English: ESL, but I couldn’t do that without the effective foreground Jessica has already established within her company. I’m really lucky to be part of something wonderful!
