I am the Internship Placement Manager, which basically means I am the mediator between the interns and the host companies. When we receive an application, I will assess it and contact the applicant to invite him/her for an interview. During the interview I will ask various questions and also explain the program and Thailand in more detail. When the applicant enrolls with us, I will match his/her requirements to the open opportunities of our host companies. Then I follow up with the host companies to place the intern and support the arrangements for the visa, accommodation, transportation and so on.
I also keep in regular contact with all the interns across the country. As we are based in Phuket, I visit the interns during their internships and conduct appraisals with the interns and their supervisors in the host companies. Once a month, I also coordinate a social activity day with all the interns (in Phuket) to show them the island, go to an event (for networking in hospitality) and catch up on the interns’ experiences, needs and questions.
My career started in Thailand in 2003 when I worked for a local incoming travel agency representing international travel agents. I had fallen in love with the country when I came to visit (as a tourist) and was lucky to be at the right place at the right time. After three years in Krabi, I moved back to my home country, Germany, to study as a Tourism Marketing Management Assistant.
With the aim to spend my life in Thailand, I returned in 2007 and found a placement as a Management Trainee in Sales & Marketing with the Holiday Inn Resort, Phi Phi Islands. There, I was promoted to Sales & Web Marketing Manager after a few months into the internship. I spent a total of two years working in hotels on Phi Phi Island.
In 2010 I moved to Phuket and worked as freelance teacher for three years until I joined Internships Thailand early February 2013. My passions are Thai culture and language, meeting new people with multinational backgrounds and working closely with the Hospitality & Tourism Industry.
