Internship at Jiwa Damai

During my six weeks long internship at Jiwa Damai I was focusing on psychological self- exploration to deepen personal growth and self-development. My project included a five dimensional approach: mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and nutrition. Through tools such as heart-meditation, yoga , running and garden work to get in touch with the earth, I was able to explore and experience myself in new ways. I received excellent guidance and supervision throughout the whole time of my internship from Dr. Margret Rueffler, a transpersonal psychologist. I am greatly satisfied with my internship. I didn't expect such deep personal growth to take place and I feel that this internship has been a great opportunity to expand my horizon and will be a huge benefit for my future.

Best Internship I've ever done

I spent 6 weeks at Jiwa Damai doing an internship program I need for my studies in physical geography to the University in Germany.
It was a very strong experience - from developing my project and applying it in the permaculture garden to all the other aspects I learned about: All in all it was quite an important experience and a learning on many different levels: climate, local culture, tropical environment, permaculture, working with people from Bali, England, America very mixed up. Another benefit that Jiwa Damai offers: yoga in the morning and heart meditation in the evening. It kept me fit during the time of the internship and stabilised/supported my mind by adapting and processing that which had confronted me. All of this learning was in addition to the skills I gained in relation to the hospitality industry.
Margret and Stephanie done great supervision and Made - the kitchen fairy cooked themoste delicious meals with our garden vegetables.

You are the founder of Jiwa Damai and Lagu Damai Foundation. What is unique about this place?

Located in the Heart of Bali, in Indonesia, Jiwa Damai is a very special place which offers a powerful environment where interns can experience tranquility and re-connect to the life-giving qualities of the earth. Imagine doing your internship surrounded by the abundant tropical vegetation of South Asia, near a fresh water pool, several large ponds and a beautiful permaculture garden open for learning and experimenting. People from all over the world meet at Jiwa Damai, they learn from each other and from the land. Sessions of yoga are held in the morning and heart meditation, in the evening. Interns also have the opportunity to immerse in the local Balinese culture and traditions through observation and interaction. The Balinese kitchen is much loved.

Jiwa Damai is thus the perfect place for reflection and contemplation, the place which offers you the time and space to explore and find your path, to experience personal growth. Lagu Damai Foundation is a non for profit organization which is located at Jiwa Damai and offers the internships.

What makes the Internship Through the Heart from Jiwa Damai different?

People who want to change their lives. Our interns come from all over the world and have various backgrounds. They are graduates or postgraduates, people who have just finished their education or who have long left the school system. But they all have in common the interest of making a profound change in their life, in finding their path.

What kind of projects do the interns have?

The projects depend on the interests of the interns. For instance, the current intern is interested in general nutrition. She studies the properties of different cooking oils. However, she focused on coconut oil and analyzed the harvest, the production and the effects of coconut oil. At Jiwa Damai we offer cold pressed, organic coconut oil made by our local team. Therefore, the intern had the opportunity to get involved in the entire process and then test the oil on herself both as nutrition and as beauty product.

What do people learn from this experience?

Interns told us that after the internship at Jiwa Damai they find their peace and feel very confident with their path.
