Permacultura Caimito

Why choose Permacultura Caimito?

Permacultura Caimito is an ongoing project that takes place in the small town of Caimito, which consists of 15 families that work primarily in the production of cacao, banana, papaya, and other tropical fruits, on the coast of the province of Esmeraldas in Ecuador. We offer a Tropical Permaculture Apprenticeship in which volunteers learn about and participate in sustainable agriculture, ecological conservation, eco-construction, and community development. Given our town's small size and rural setting, its location in a highly biodiverse ecoregion (the Chocó Darién), and its extremely close proximity to the ocean (in fact, its coast is part of the Galera-San Francisco Marine Reserve), there are also many opportunities for independent research. The captivating landscape in which Caimito is embedded and the invigorating seascape it borders never fail to inspire awe and remind us why our efforts to live in equilibrium with the natural environment are so important.
