Sustainable Bolivia

Why choose Sustainable Bolivia?

Founded in 2007, Sustainable Bolivia (SB) is a 501 (c) 3 international non-profit organization with conservation and sustainable development initiatives in the Bolivian Amazon.

Our Work in the Aquicuana Reserve
In 2016, we helped secure protection for more than 20,000 hectares of rainforest, establishing the Aquicuana Reserve. Inside the Reserve, we partner with local communities and oversee projects focused on community-based ecotourism, conservation and resource management, and environmental education/research.

Our Work in Riberalta
In the nearby city of Riberalta, SB supports local organizations with volunteer placements and micro-grant funding. We provide local scholarships and organize internships, art residencies, and research opportunities for international students and professionals. We also oversee a Spanish and Indigenous Language School providing instruction in the native Chacobo, Cavineño and Ese Ejja languages.

Yes, I recommend this program

Interned with ProMujer Microfinance

I volunteered with Sustainable Bolivia for two months. One month was in a fabulous homestay with a local family, and the second month was at the homebase which was really an unforgettable experience. There was really a vibrant culture, diversity, creativity, and enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers at Sustainable Bolivia and they make it very welcoming and homelike.

I think I could have gotten off to a more focused start with my research project at ProMujer, a really interesting organization, but I learned a lot and would recommend anyone working with them to do research and find advisors(maybe college professors) to help direct your project. Or just keep offering yourself to be useful wherever you can.

Cochabamba is a great place. I love the community at SB and hope to go back some day.
