My experience with this program was truly unforgettable. From observing cetaceans up close to learning about marine ecosystems and conservation efforts, every moment was incredibly rewarding. The Santa Maria became my home on the water, swaying with the waves, and I cherished every opportunity to work in the stunning Lanzarote surroundings. The apartment was also well-located near Puerto del Carmen, making everything convenient.
The program is perfect for those passionate about marine life and conservation. I learned so much—not only about cetaceans and marine biology but also about sailing, teamwork, and the importance of sharing messages of sustainability with others.
The team members, Gonzalo and Silvia, were absolutely incredible—kind, helpful, and always willing to teach, explain, and share their knowledge. They made time for us and even engaged in activities outside of excursions, which made the experience even more special.
However, it’s important to emphasize that this program is not for people looking for a guided vacation or expecting to be coddled. The team members are there to guide, teach, and share their expertise, but they are not babysitters. You’re expected to be motivated, proactive, and willing to contribute.
If you’re genuinely interested in learning, helping out, and working toward the protection of marine ecosystems, this program will exceed your expectations. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with you forever!
What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared to actively participate and contribute during your time in the program. This is not a guided vacation but a hands-on experience where your involvement makes a real difference. Show initiative, be ready to help with tasks on and off the boat, and embrace the learning opportunities. Also, come with a genuine interest in marine conservation and respect for the animals and ecosystems—you’ll get the most out of the experience that way. And don’t forget practical essentials like sunscreen, a hat, and motion sickness pills if you’re prone to seasickness!
