Would you recommend knowing Japanese before going abroad?

I know little to none and before I commit to going I would like to know if I need to study or not.

I know little to none and before I commit to going I would like to know if I need to study or not.
I would recommend being able to at least know a few key phrases and be able to read hiragana and katakana. (Though if you're studying with EF, you don't need any prior knowledge of the language.)
