Tesol Certificate Barcelona

In 2010 in Australia the college I worked for closed and my children left home. I was at a loss as to what to do next. I sat with this for a while thinking over what I wanted to do with my teaching career in middle age. I was a qualified primary school teacher. Eventually I remembered that in my youth I had wanted to teach English as another language.
I searched courses on the internet and found this course in Barcelona. I decided on this one as I had started learning Spanish. I chose the option to do the assignments over the internet and spend 2 weeks at the college attending lectures and doing practice teaching.
This was really a wonderful experience. The college found us boarding with locals which was great. There were only 3 other mature students in the course but the young ones accepted us and we all went out together on weekends. I did spend some late nights with assignments and there was some pressure to get your daily lessons ready fairly quickly to teach them that afternoon.
The teaching staff were all very experienced and gave us good advice on how to live in this city. I got lots of practice teaching English and great feedback and advice on teaching methods from the supervisors.
I could not teach English in Europe because I was Australian and couldn't get my papers. So when I came home I applied for work in China. I secured a good job but had to pull out because of health reasons. In 2011 I was employed as a teacher of English, literacy and numeracy in a nearby town in Australia and taught mainly new settlers to Australia for the next 7 years. As many of my students were refugees, it was a very rewarding experience.

What would you improve about this program?
I think if you have done all the theory and assignments over the internet you should be exempt from doing the assignments over the practical portion of the course.

Great confidence booster

I came in with a Bachelor's degree, so I knew I didn't need the certification to get a job teaching in Japan. What I wanted from TEFL Tokyo was the confidence to walk into a new classroom and start teaching. That is exactly what I got.

TEFL International Tokyo gave me a TESOL certificate, but more importantly, they gave me the tools and practice and confidence I need to be an effective teacher.

Valuable teaching opportunities.

This was a great course with a sufficient amount of time and attention paid to both the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching English as a second language.
Larry and Dave conducted the classes with a friendly enthusiasm and had a way of making every task interesting and informative. Additionally, classes were well organised and provided plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the given topics.
TEFL International was a great way for me to start my time in Tokyo and was an invaluable experience which I believe will definitely help me in any future language teaching career.

I learned a lot!

I truly learned a lot in this course! It is a great mix of textbook information, practical real life teaching, great teacher role models, and lots of valuable skills and inputs. The teachers are really fun and friendly and knowledgable. It's a good atmosphere to learn in. The real world teaching opportunities are helpful and great practice. This is a course I can be proud to say I have taken, and it should carry a lot of weight with employers. Speaking of, they gave me a great reference, and I was able to get a job offer shortly after the course finished, using what I had learned in the class during my interview. Thanks Larry and Coach Dave!!

What would you improve about this program?
I think they could retype and crisp up the handout materials. They have good content, but the ink was dull. Such a small thing. But hey there's gotta be something to improve.

Its been a year since my time at TEFL Barcelona and it has been excellent

Since my time in Barcelona I have worked in the Philippines and Thailand, my certification helped me to secure jobs in both countries and am now looking forward to returning to Spain to work as a teacher. Wherever you choose to work in the world your time at TEFL Barcelona will help you for sure.

Well worth the time, effort, and money.

I have had many great teachers throughout my education, and both Larry and Dave rank right up there, too. Both have decades of experience living and teaching in Japan, so they are filled to the brim with useful knowledge that useful not just for teaching in Japan, but also living there. To top it all off, they both happen to be really great, personable, and humorous guys.

I also want to give a word of warning; don't expect a walk in the park. Within these four weeks you will learn more about grammar than you ever knew existed and the workload, while not backbreaking, will definitely consume a fair amount of time.

What would you improve about this program?
My only real complaint is that the classroom can feel a little cramped.

COMMUNICATION FROM THE HEART

That is what I experienced whilst attending TEFL International, Tokyo. I was not just told about what to learn but I experienced it in my life from my dedicated sensei's. I am leaving 100% equipped.

Highlight

For my final Materials Project (end of course project) I had a Level 4 class who were particularly difficult and very rarely listened to what I said. I decided to address a grammar point as my main focus of the class, even though most people wisely chose complex vocabulary instead! My lesson was on 'Dreams', the grammar point being reported speech. Doing a lesson on something I wasn't familiar or confident with meant that I had to research it thoroughly and put together an effective lesson plan. My hard work paid off and by the end of the lesson I had achieved my aim as the class understood and were speaking in reported speech. For me, this was the highlight of the course and the guidance and teaching from our tutors gave me the confidence and capability to achieve it.

What would you improve about this program?
More projects to complete as there was a lot of free time in the afternoon where I felt I could have been working on something extra (optional projects or something)

Good Course

Just finished the TEFL course in Barcelona. I found the course challenging but I got through it with the help of the teachers. Good job perspectives on the horizon. No crisis for English teachers in Spain at the moment.
