Under Canvas West Yellowstone

I loved my experience with Adventure EXP and the job opportunity they were able to find for me at Under Canvas! I have done seasonal work before, and I had been itching to get out and do it again! This opportunity was absolutely perfect. I loved being able to travel to a new area and work in a very unique environment. I really enjoyed getting to explore the surrounding areas and getting into the local life!

One of the biggest takeaways and learning opportunities from this experience was definitely just how to manage adulting. I really had to figure out how to properly manage my money and time, which I feel like in the long run helped me out a lot! I know I will continue to use those skills for the rest of my life. I also got the chance to connect with new people from all over the world. Whether it was my coworkers or the guests that came to stay with us, it was so fun getting to meet all of those amazing people.

I highly recommend partnering with Adventure EXP and doing seasonal work! I know it has changed my life for the better!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I got to try huckleberries for the first time! I had no idea it was such a popular thing in Montana, but it was pretty good!
Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Experiencing local life and activities
  • Making life long memories
Cons
  • The difference in how much things cost compared to where I live
  • Housing could have been better
  • You have to travel far to find places such as Walmart, Costco, etc

Best part of my gap year

During my gap year, I wanted to do more than just travel. I wanted to gain practical skills and earn money. AdventureEXP fit perfectly into my plans by offering a work opportunity in a beautiful mountain town in Colorado. I earned money and spent most of my days outside hanging with friends and got super into skiing. The experience was fun and I learned a lot about myself. The program's support was great which made the transition smooth and stress-free. I learned how to manage my finances, interact with a diverse group of people, and handle real-world challenges confidently. I also learned to speak up for myself which Im really proud of. AdventureEXP truly turned my gap year into a period of growth and discovery, making it an unforgettable chapter in my life.

Really Glad I Did This!

I decided to take a break from college and work at a ski resort for the season, and this life skills course was a huge help during that time. They break up the course into videos and provided me with a lot of tools that I plan to keep using in the future. I learned a lot about work The financial literacy section was incredibly useful since I’d never been good with money. Now, I can create a budget and manage my finances, which is a skill I desperately needed. The career planning modules also gave me a clear direction for my future. This course is a must for anyone who wants to gain practical skills and feel more confident about their next steps. I’m grateful I took this course!

Did this during my gap year

During my gap year, I did an outdoor leadership program first and then worked a job back in my hometown to save money and take a break from school. My counselor recommended I do this course while working because it would help me learn more skills while working at a coffee shop. She was 100% right. This course was one of the best decisions I made on my gap year. The course content was way more engaging than high school, with interactive videos and fun activities. The financial literacy section was a game-changer for me but I also really liked all of the stuff around mental and emotional health because that was another goal I wanted to work on during my gap year. I started meditating during my gap year too which was way harder than I thought it would be. The career planning modules were super helpful and I feel more prepared for college. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to make the most out of their gap year and feel more prepared for life. I'm so glad I took this course and learned these essential skills!

Really glad I did this while working this Spring

While juggling college and a part-time job, I took this life skills course, and it was really beneficial. I really like how the way they present the information isn’t how I learned in high school and they actually found a way to make it fun. There are lots of videos and stuff like that. The financial literacy section was really great because I feel like I have never really learned about how to manage money or even what to do with my money when I have it which I was actually embarrassed to ask about but they make it super comfortable to learn. I now know how to create and stick to a budget,, which is something I never thought I’d manage. The career planning modules were super helpful too. Seriously anyone could benefit from taking this course to feel more secure about their future! One of the instructors opened it up talking about that they try to teach stuff that they forgot to teach us in school which is exactly what i was thinking while doing it because I wish I had learned a lot of these topics earlier but Im glad I know them now.

Enjoyed the Summer in VA with AdventureEXP

I had a tough start to my experience by getting in a car accident on the way to my externship. My program manager was so kind and helpful and helped me figure out details and communicate with my employer. The space was beautiful, and the staff was kind. My role was working as a server in the restaurant. I stayed for 4months and left with great friends and some savings in my bank account. All in all, a good experience and one I would recommend to anyone interested in traveling and gaining new experiences.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I had never eaten grilled Atlantic oysters before this adventure.
Pros
  • Community/ Friends
  • Nature
  • Income

highly recommend!!!

I couldn’t believe how much I learned in such a short time. I did this course while I was working over the Summer between semesters and it was a total game changer. The course covered everything from investing to understanding how taxes work. I especially appreciated the section about how to pick friends that support your lifestyle, which has helped me think about my relationships. They also recommend books throughout each section for you to continue exploring topics that I really connected with which was super cool. I have also already read a few of the books on their list of recommended books to read when you’re becoming an adult and they’ve been so interesting. This course has given me the tools I was looking for and now I’m starting to think about getting an internship and I feel more confident in myself now!

Its SO worth it!!!!

The life skills foundation course was absolutely worth it. I learned everything from effective decision making to time management techniques. The best part was the interactive budgeting workshop which taught me how to manage my expenses. I actually made money during my gap year. This course has definitely set me up for success in the real world. I’m so glad I did this course while I was working during my gap year because it helped me have a much better experience and I know I’ll continue to use the workbooks and tools that they provided me as part of this course. I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning to work on their gap year.

Skills I will actually use!

As someone who values personal development, the Life Skills Courses were actually interesting and helpful. Of course, I need to put them to practice to get the most out of them but it was refreshing to learn things that felt relevant to my life.

Unfortunately, no one really teaches us these fundamental skills unless you pick up a bunch of self-improvement books. The course does a good job of teaching us life skills in an engaging way. It helps to build a foundation that I found to be helpful as I recently graduated high school and am figuring out where I want to go in life.

One of the unexpected benefits of this experience was that I managed to make money while participating in the program. It was a reassuring realization that the program not only offered personal and professional growth but also financial benefits.
