Under Canvas West Yellowstone

I loved my experience with Adventure EXP and the job opportunity they were able to find for me at Under Canvas! I have done seasonal work before, and I had been itching to get out and do it again! This opportunity was absolutely perfect. I loved being able to travel to a new area and work in a very unique environment. I really enjoyed getting to explore the surrounding areas and getting into the local life!

One of the biggest takeaways and learning opportunities from this experience was definitely just how to manage adulting. I really had to figure out how to properly manage my money and time, which I feel like in the long run helped me out a lot! I know I will continue to use those skills for the rest of my life. I also got the chance to connect with new people from all over the world. Whether it was my coworkers or the guests that came to stay with us, it was so fun getting to meet all of those amazing people.

I highly recommend partnering with Adventure EXP and doing seasonal work! I know it has changed my life for the better!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I got to try huckleberries for the first time! I had no idea it was such a popular thing in Montana, but it was pretty good!
Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Experiencing local life and activities
  • Making life long memories
Cons
  • The difference in how much things cost compared to where I live
  • Housing could have been better
  • You have to travel far to find places such as Walmart, Costco, etc

Best part of my gap year

During my gap year, I wanted to do more than just travel. I wanted to gain practical skills and earn money. AdventureEXP fit perfectly into my plans by offering a work opportunity in a beautiful mountain town in Colorado. I earned money and spent most of my days outside hanging with friends and got super into skiing. The experience was fun and I learned a lot about myself. The program's support was great which made the transition smooth and stress-free. I learned how to manage my finances, interact with a diverse group of people, and handle real-world challenges confidently. I also learned to speak up for myself which Im really proud of. AdventureEXP truly turned my gap year into a period of growth and discovery, making it an unforgettable chapter in my life.

Enjoyed the Summer in VA with AdventureEXP

I had a tough start to my experience by getting in a car accident on the way to my externship. My program manager was so kind and helpful and helped me figure out details and communicate with my employer. The space was beautiful, and the staff was kind. My role was working as a server in the restaurant. I stayed for 4months and left with great friends and some savings in my bank account. All in all, a good experience and one I would recommend to anyone interested in traveling and gaining new experiences.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I had never eaten grilled Atlantic oysters before this adventure.
Pros
  • Community/ Friends
  • Nature
  • Income

One of the unexpected benefits of this experience was that I managed to make money while participating in the program. Considering the travel costs and spending money, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had offset these expenses. • Make New Friends
  • Explore New Cultures
Cons
  • Grow your confidence and skill set

Destination Work Program in Montana

The most meaningful part of the program was who I met, which includes my coworkers and the customers. I also learned how to cook from living on my own, which was a goal of mine. I chose this location because I wanted to be near the outdoors, and it worked perfectly for my timeline to fit in other programs during my entire gap year. I ended up making money on the program after factoring in travel costs and spending money during the experience. I wouldn't change anything about the program. It allowed me to travel away from home on my own and gave me work experience that was aligned with my interests.

Pros
  • Forming connections
  • Being more independent
  • Leaving the program with money
Cons
  • Challenging to travel independently, especially at first
