I went to school for Aerospace Engineering and now I teach English as a foreign language. Wait, what? Well, the summer before graduating I went to Italy to teach (but mostly, to be in Italy) and found myself happier than I had been in the four years prior. I loved being in the classroom and loved the feeling of spreading the language in my own small way. After that, I decided I’d rather be on a plane rather than build one. ITA helped make that decision a reality. After graduating from college, I enrolled in their online course. I learned about teaching methods, techniques, classroom management, and more. Each week was a different topic, quiz, reading, discussion, and lesson activity. The course closed with a practicum where I was finally able to put my new knowledge to use and observe/teach in a classroom for 20 hours. Aside from all the new material I was learning, I think I am most grateful for the lifetime job assistance and sense of community this program offers. I get on the ITA Facebook groups multiple times a week to check for recommendations from other students. There are various Facebook group for various countries! From my first call to register for the course to my most recent job assistance phone call, I have had nothing but genuine, attentitive advisors. Since completing my course, I have taught students from 33 different countries online and am now getting ready to step into a Spanish classroom this fall!
