3 months (virtually) in Saigon was an eye opener! I worked for a local start-up and did all their marketing and public relations tasks in English. The whole process worked out quite smoothly from the start as Meiji Internships insured the communication to work well. I was trying to address my concerns and what I wanted to get out of my internship during my initial consultation call with Meiji. They showed a lot of understanding for my needs, but also been very honest to me with what I can expect in the actual internship. I really appreciated their honesty and also not trying to awaken wrong expectations, especially for a sophomore student with almost non-related prior work experience.
The biggest advice I can give all future interns is not to demand too many things during your initial interview call with the host company. Show that you are eager and hungry to learn something new and to challenge yourself without making conditions. It was difficult for me first to accept this fact but being open minded and embracing the new without making any demands played out to be the best approach in the long term. My modest approach was highly appreciated by my Vietnamese boss and I landed a paid internship with them for Summer next year. Looking forward to explore Vietnam as soon as this whole pandemic is hopefully over. Shoot out to Farina and the amazing staff at Meiji! You rock!!
