Overall the trip was good. We got to experience some really cool things outside of the clinic blocks and had a lot of fun learning about the culture, clients and helping support these clients and future clinicians. We were a group of second year grad students so it was really cool to apply our learned knowledge to the clients.
One thing I wasn’t too big on were the pre-ordered meals out at the restaurants because I felt this restricted us in getting to try the cultural options that were available on the menu.
I did DM some things to the directors for some feedback as well :)
Would you recommend this program?

Hi!! I genuinely enjoyed the trip & everything we got to experience. However I do feel there are some flaws that need to be corrected to better the program for future students.
1. There needs to be some type of goal manager. For both of my clients, every single one of their SOAP notes had completely different short term goals. I am not sure if this is due to inexperienced students or supervisors but it was extremely hard to tell what supports my clients even needed due to the scattered goals. The STGs on the SOAPs did not even match the evaluation goals which I feel is an issue because if clinicians are changing goals day to day how can they tell if the client truly is successful at the goal. Also, after talking to my group I felt as well as almost everyone else that our goals were not even appropriate for our clients. Once again, this could be due to lack of experience on the students but I feel the supervisors should catch that in order to best support the clients & make the best time of having clinicians there working with them.
2. There almost needs to be another day off of just documentation. Looking at previous SOAPs (for my clients) some of them were so bare and I wonder if the students & supervisors rushed through due to time crunch. There almost needs to be like a full morning of documentation. Myself & most of my classmates felt extremely rushed with documentation & that is a concern because we can not adequately provide the next clinicians with the information needed about the client. OR if not a day of documentation, a day of collaboration where current clinicians can collaborate with clinicians coming in to debrief & educate the new clinician on the client.
3. There seemed to be a lot of disorganization with screeners vs. forms and wording to all of the documents that were within the folders. For the most part I felt things were somewhat organized on the google docs but there were so many folders within folders which often made it difficult to remember where things were & consistently & efficiently work. Maybe upload a video of how everything needs to flow and work. I know there is a PowerPoint but a lot of people are visual or auditory learners and need the extra explicit training. I heard a lot of complaints about disorganization of the folders/SOAPS/goals/documentation names, etc.
Overall the trip was a great time, on the ground staff was amazing. We all loved Jamie, Justin, Eddie and Gill, I just think there needs to be clearer direction and better organization in the future to best support students & keep students coming back.
I personally am a repeat student but I know some of my classmates did not enjoy this experience due to lack of organization/communication. This could also be attributed to us being 2nd year grad students & taking this more seriously & being more experienced than previous groups.
