I was pretty set on teaching high-schoolers in a big city, but I was only offered primary school positions. I was a bit concerned about teaching grade 1 students, but now I'm kinda relieved I got them instead of high school kids. They're SO sweet and adorable :D
My colleagues at Anuban Phanat Suksalai are really friendly and helpful. The school is also surprisingly well-equipped even though it's a government school in a small/medium-sized town (Phanat Nikhom). I even have a microphone if I don't want to raise my voice lol. Also, accept the fact that your school and/agency will not communicate with you timeously on important matters; most communication is piece-meal and last minute.
I'm really grateful to God for the school I got. I only teach 11 hours a week (though this is not typical for most people; it's usually around 20 hours). The town's a bit small for my taste though. There are some restaurants and cafes, and it's 1.5 hours from Bangkok and Pattaya by motorbike, but I'd still prefer to be somewhere I can rent a proper condo with a fantastic view and get a muay thai gym membership.
All in all, this has been a great experience so far. Just make sure you have decent savings to cover the costs of government things like visas and work permits; so far it's cost me about 15k THB to get a non-B visa. You'll financially stabilise after about 2 months though. HAVE AN OPEN MIND! Say yes more than you say no!
