As a third-year medical student from the U.S., joining the 3-week Medical Internship in London with Lite Regal Education was an incredible experience that gave me a real taste of what it’s like to work in healthcare abroad. The program mixed lectures, hands-on workshops, and hospital shadowing, giving me both theoretical and practical insight into medicine within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

The highlight of the internship was my clinical placement at The London Clinic, one of the country’s leading private hospitals. I shadowed doctors in both internal medicine and surgery, joining ward rounds, patient consultations, and even observing minor surgical procedures. The doctors were welcoming and happy to explain their decision-making processes, which really helped me connect the dots between what I’ve studied and how medicine works in real life. It was fascinating to compare how the UK and U.S. healthcare systems operate.

Outside the hospital, we attended interactive lectures and workshops that covered anatomy, diagnostics, medical ethics, and clinical communication. There were also practical sessions where we learned suturing, CPR, and other essential clinical skills. One particularly interesting workshop focused on how artificial intelligence is transforming modern medicine — something that really sparked my interest.

I stayed in Hayloft Point, a modern student residence near Aldgate East. My single ensuite room was small but comfy, with everything I needed — a private bathroom, desk, and Wi-Fi. The location was perfect for exploring London, and the student lounge made it easy to connect with others on the course.

By the end of the internship, I had gained new clinical confidence, international experience, and a deeper appreciation for medicine as a global profession.
