Belize SLP

My week in Belize was an incredible and meaningful experience. Volunteering at Stella Maris Special Education School and the clinic allowed me to use my speech therapy skills, build real relationships, and learn so much from the students and staff. I only wish I had more time there. one week wasn’t enough.
I think the program could benefit from more donation opportunities, such as AAC devices, games, activities, and school supplies to support both clinicians and families including parent resources. More reliable WiFi at the Tropical Education Center would also help future volunteers.
Outside of work, snorkeling at Caye Caulker and cave tubing were unforgettable. Adding an extra day or even a night on one of the islands would make the experience even better. Overall, my time in Belize was genuinely rewarding, and I hope to go back for a longer stay.
