Preparation for my teaching job at ESS

Review
I began working as a substitute teacher with ESS, covering a wide range of schools and grade levels within Richardson ISD. Although my role was not specifically focused on teaching English as a Second Language, I was regularly responsible for teaching English, as well as a variety of other subjects, to students from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
Enrolling in the TEFL course proved to be an excellent decision and greatly enhanced my effectiveness as an educator. The course provided me with a strong foundation in lesson planning, classroom management, teaching methodologies, and student engagement strategies. These skills were immediately transferable to my work as a substitute teacher and helped me feel more confident and prepared when entering different classroom environments.
One of the most valuable aspects of the course was learning how to support students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In many of the classrooms where I worked, I encountered students from South America and other parts of the world. The TEFL training helped me develop a better understanding of cultural differences, communication styles, and the challenges that multilingual learners may face in the classroom. As a result, I was able to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
The course also taught me how to adapt lessons to meet different learning needs, use effective questioning techniques, and manage classrooms with confidence and professionalism. These skills have been invaluable when teaching students across multiple grade levels and subject areas.
Overall, I am extremely grateful for the knowledge and experience I gained through the TEFL course. It has provided me with practical teaching tools, strengthened my classroom management abilities, and deepened my understanding of effective teaching practices. Most importantly, it has given me a solid foundation in educational approaches and methodologies that I continue to apply in my daily work as an educator.
Thank you for the opportunity to complete the TEFL course. I found the program very valuable and it has significantly supported my development as a substitute teacher working across different schools and grade levels.
One area I would like to suggest for improvement is the balance of assignment types. I found the first two assignments particularly helpful because they focused on practical classroom preparation and lesson planning. These tasks closely reflected real teaching situations and helped me build confidence in managing a classroom. In contrast, the third assignment, which focused more on creating comprehension questions, felt less directly applicable to my day-to-day teaching experience. I would have appreciated more emphasis on practical, classroom-based planning activities similar to the earlier assignments.
Additionally, I feel that some course segments were quite lengthy and could be made more concise to improve focus and engagement. It would also be very helpful if graduates could retain access to course materials after completion, as this would support ongoing reference and professional development.
Overall, I am grateful for the knowledge and skills gained through the program, and I appreciate the effort that has gone into its design and delivery
