About Program
This 8-week course delves into the theory and practice of Buddhism. In the unique setting of a Buddhist monastery and a traditional retreat center, students are introduced to both classical and modern Buddhist scholarship and meditation training. You will live in the thriving community of Boudhanath in Kathmandu city. The program includes 4 days of orientation, and field trips to some of Kathmandu's most culturally rich sites such as Gokarna, Sundarijal, Chobhar, Budhnilakantha, Pashupati, Kasthamandap, and Bhaktapur.
Classes are structured as a combination of traditional Tibetan-style and Western academic-style classroom lectures on fundamental Buddhist topics and texts including instruction on their practical application through meditation training. Daily meditation sessions are an important feature of the course. The program includes 12 days of retreat at the Asura Cave Retreat Center.
