Teaching and Conservation Programmes in Zimbabwe
- Zimbabwe
About Program
We believe that wildlife conservation can only be successful if combined with improvements in literacy and community education. If communities are self-sustaining and people have jobs, the reliance on poaching and the illegal wildlife trade is reduced.
We offer a number of combination teaching and wildlife projects which have long term conservation and community development principles at heart. In Zimbabwe almost 90% of people are unemployed or work unofficially. As a result many children do not attend school regularly. Our teaching programmes are based in rural schools and volunteers work with small groups of children using an approved reading and literacy scheme to teach basic English. You will also teach children computer skills and the importance of caring for the environment.
Volunteers live in the bush and learn about wildlife conservation and game park management as well as experiencing Zimbabwe's amazing game viewing and stunning wilderness areas.
