About Program

Red Shed is an organisation currently helping animal welfare shelters in border countries of Ukraine. We are now looking for a select few volunteers to help us at one of the Hungarian/Ukrainian border shelters.

If you are interested in helping Ukrainian animals (in a very safe space), this will be your best experience.

The Ugat Lak shelter has been in operation since 2011, but it is is now unable to cope with the number of Ukrainian animals it has been asked to take in and Red Shed is looking to help them. We are looking for dog-friendly volunteers who can help us repair and rebuild this shelter

Anyone who is physically fit for manual work to help re-build this shelter. It will be a 'bit of muscle' if you are not used to it, however extremely rewarding to see the difference you will have made in the lives of these animals.

This program is no longer offered. View more programs from Red Shed.

Program Highlights

  • Hands-on work with dogs (some cats)
  • Help an animal shelter repair and rebuild its structure for better care of the animals
  • Safe and welcoming environment
  • Own room in a gorgeous guesthouse (with pool and BBQ in the evenings)
  • Red Shed will provide a certificate to show you have completed work in one of its animal shelters

Program Impact

You will be integral to the start of this shelter repair and rebuild.
The woman Eniko who runs it is absolutely lovely, as well as her regular volunteers.
They are under a bit of pressure since the war began, so we are delighted to help them out.

This will be a lovely small group whom you will enjoy being around and sharing stories!
Most importantly, you will be close to ALL of the super friendly dogs :)
This will be a really great achievement to have under your belt!

Excellent experience with Sandy at Red Shed border shelter

Really happy I joined Sandy at this border shelter and contributed to helping these animals from the war.

I got full on experience of dealing with dogs and lots of time to interact with them.

Even though it's only new, Sandy knows exactly what she's doing!
I'm really really happy I did my 'Animal war effort' help with her.

Eniko who runs the shelter is really lovely too.
She is trying so hard to not turn any animals away and you can tell how much she loves each and every one of them ❤

I can't wait to see what it looks like after it's finished!

Pros
  • Helping animals from the Ukrainian war
  • Getting hands on experience at the start of Sandy's vision for this shelter
  • Seeing the difference I made :)
