About Program

The Maldives is one of the world’s most breathtaking tropical destinations, home to extraordinary marine biodiversity, pristine beaches, and vibrant coastal communities. Yet, beneath its idyllic beauty lies a fragile ecosystem facing serious environmental threats. Sea turtles, one of the Maldives’ most iconic species, are particularly vulnerable due to habitat loss, plastic pollution, ghost nets, unregulated tourism activities, and warming oceans. Volunteering Journeys offers the unique opportunity to escape the typical holiday and instead immerse yourself in purposeful, marine-based volunteering while living in a stunning island paradise. Our Sea Turtle Volunteering Program in the Maldives invites you to contribute directly to marine rehabilitation efforts, learn from experienced conservation professionals, and play an active role in protecting these gentle ocean giants. Volunteers assist with daily turtle care, feeding routines, cleaning habitats, and centre maintenance.

Program Impact

Our Sea Turtle Volunteering Program in the Maldives creates meaningful, measurable impact for endangered marine life. Volunteers directly support the rescue and rehabilitation of injured turtles affected by ghost nets, plastic pollution and boat strikes, helping improve survival rates and increasing successful releases back into the ocean. By assisting with feeding, cleaning, monitoring and daily care, you help relieve pressure on under-resourced rescue centres. Beach and reef clean-ups reduce waste and prevent further harm to marine life, while data collection assists long-term conservation research. The program also raises environmental awareness within local island communities, encouraging responsible waste practices and sustainable tourism. Volunteers return home with a deeper understanding of marine conservation and continue spreading awareness, extending the impact globally.
