About Program

Experiencia Puerto Escondido is situated on the coast of the beautiful southern state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Puerto Escondido is a surf town with some of the best waves in the world and is surrounded by tropical jungle. Here you can also enjoy an excellent night life and experience the best that Mexico has to offer: amazing food, cultural events and wildlife!

Have an authentic volunteer experience while making an impact on the surroundings and the community of Mexico. Each of us can make a difference and help to solve environmental and social problems together.

We offer various programs:
- Wildlife: turtle conservation, iguanas, street dogs
- Teaching English
- Social work: child-care, orphanages
- Tourism: hotels, travel agencies, eco
- Farms: coffee plantations, dairy, cheese farms

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

4 weeks in Puerto

My time in Puerto has been a great adventure. Puerto is a lovely city - small enough to feel home fast, but still offering a lot as wonderful beaches, many surf classes, beach clubs and most importantly welcoming and friendly people.

The Spanish school was great and the staff nice. For not knowing a lot of Spanish, I was able to learn really quick due to the good and intensive lessons.

For one week, I was working in a summer school programme. It consisted of english lessons for kids 6-14, and lasted 90 minutes per day, plus preparation time. The project was very much appreciated by th kids and a lot of fun.
My second project was in a kindergarden, where we helped the local staff in their dail routines. It was also enjoyable.

What would you improve about this program?
The Social Work Projects could be improved by finding more projects that are socially relevant and have a greater impact on other peoples lifes. It definetly helps you to grow personally, but programmes as the kindergarden work are not as necessary for the institution. On the other hand, the summer classes in english were great and very much appreciated by the kids.
