Rewilding Animals Rescued from Wildlife Trafficking in the Peruvian Amazon
- Peru
About Program
In 2008 ,we became one of the first official wildlife rescue & rehabilitation centres for wildlife in the Amazonian region of Peru, and since then have been working closely with the Forestry Service (SERFOR) to rewild animals who would otherwise be facing life in captivity.
Our animals are, where possible, re-introduced to the forest to reinforce local populations. For the animals we are unable to release, we give them the best life they could have in captivity. An important part of the program is the reintroduction of Peruvian Spider Monkeys (Ateles chamek), a species which has been locally extinct for more than 40 years. If you love animals, are interested in wildlife conservation, would like veterinary experience for your studies, or simply want a new experience, Join us to take part in rescuing, caring for and monitoring these animals throughout the rehabilitation process, and feel the satisfaction of a job well done when releasing groups or individuals back into the forest.
