About Program
JGI- Chimp Eden is the only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa. We have 33 chimps that we rescued from the illegal pet and bush meat trade, circuses and medical research facilities. The chimps now live in semi-wild enclosures and have formed their own family groups. Volunteers will get a chance to work closely with chimpanzees and learn about Jane Goodall's work! Jane Goodall is the pioneer of chimpanzee research and is the worlds leading conservationist, humanitarian and environmentalist. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience that will stay in your hearts forever. The JGI SA Chimpanzee Sanctuary is located within the 1000 hectare Umhloti Nature Reserve, in beautiful bush surroundings with free-roaming antelope and giraffe.
