About Program
Volunteer and road trip across Sri Lanka with TRU, combining flexible placements with travel that takes you beyond one base. Choose from a range of projects including teaching in local schools, turtle conservation, medical and nursing placements, midwifery support, construction and renovation, women’s empowerment programmes, sports coaching, and elephant coexistence initiatives.
You’re not fixed into one path you can choose a single project or combine several, depending on your interests and experience. Each placement runs within real community settings, from classrooms and clinics to conservation sites, giving you direct, practical exposure rather than observation.
Between placements, travel across Sri Lanka on planned road trips, moving through coastlines, national parks, and local towns. This is volunteering abroad that doesn’t sit still giving you the flexibility to shape your experience while exploring more of the country along the way.

Program Impact
Your time on the programme supports a range of community and conservation projects across Sri Lanka that rely on consistent, hands-on involvement. Whether you choose teaching, healthcare, construction, or conservation, your role contributes to ongoing work already in place, helping local teams maintain structure and keep projects running day to day.
In schools and community settings, extra support allows for more engaging sessions and improved attention for students. In healthcare and outreach, additional help supports busy teams delivering basic services. Conservation and wildlife programmes benefit from continued effort, helping protect environments and support long-term initiatives.
Rather than a one-off experience, you’re stepping into projects that continue year-round, working alongside local teams and contributing to work that lasts beyond your time there.
