I had never been to south american so i didn’t know what to expect. Also, this was my first volunteering experience. IVHQ are very supportive and they take care of you in the whole process not only until you pay and confirm your spot! The street children program was quite the life changing experience for me! It was exactly what I needed to make sure I am making someone happy just by being there. The children are adorable and their smiles were worth everything for me. The only thing i would comment on would be the language barrier, which is why i would recommend IVHQ has a mandatory requirement of basic Spanish for all programs. I was practically suffering in the first week to communicate with the staff and kids at least until Spanish lessons kicked in! 😀
It is a good program and UBECI is trying to give those children the support they need. With some changes, this could be one of the best IVHQ programs.

Would you recommend this program?
Yes, I would

some staff in VCE need to start acting a little more friendly with the volunteers as most of the time we were discouraged from asking a couple of them for anything as we always knew the answer would be “no”. They were not at all flexible with the spanish classes schedule that i had chosen and i had to be stubborn to get what i wanted. Also, with the PT/FT arrangement, they weren’t flexible until i spoke to Gina.
