My name is Jean Pirenne. I joined the GoAbroadChina program and participated from the beginning of January to the 19th of February. My experience was very good. My host family was very nice. They mentioned that their screening process is very rigorous, and I believe them because the host family was really good. I can't say anything bad about them, so that was a very good point. I was very satisfied as well with my Chinese lessons. From what I've heard, they enrolled me in one of the most well-known and recommended private Chinese learning schools in Beijing, and it was very, very useful. I learned a lot of Chinese.
I started learning Chinese when I was about 15 or 16 years old, mainly because my dad encouraged me to do it. But I ended up really liking it, so I continued doing it. I think the value lies in several things. Obviously, there's a practical value in helping with your future career. That aside, it's also really fun. It really exercises your brain more than any other language, I think, because of all the visual recognition you have to use and all the characters you have to learn. It's a really rewarding experience, and even though it's hard, if you stick to it and your Chinese slowly improves, it can be very rewarding.
GoAbrodChina has always been very helpful, particularly Zoe. She was always there if I needed anything, answered my questions, and made me feel very welcomed and safe. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend time in China, learn Chinese, or have an internship. I recommend it to anyone.
