I signed up for a 6 week internship, running from September through to November, working in the media sector in Melbourne.

I was placed at firm called Anthill, which was really a bit of an umbrella term a this firm has expanded from its beginnings as a simple business magazine into several different websites, blogs and also has begun it's own online university for entrepreneurs.

I loved my time working there. It was a relatively small team in the office, but there was plenty of work to get involved in throughout my stay. My main goal was to create and design a brand new iPad magazine, which was a fantastic challenge in itself.

I also assisted in video editing webinars, hiring and managing freelancers (such as designers) for various projects we were completing, setting up an automated email newsletter and maintaining a new website through daily blog posts.

I also began proof-reading work sent into us and making sure it was appropriate for publication on the main Anthill website, which I also managed to post a few of my own articles on.

So a very busy, but incredibly rewarding experience.

In terms of living in Melbourne, there is a reason why it's regularly been voted the world's most liveable city lately. CBD is packed with lots of things to do and see (I was in there everyday). There's tons of places to go for food and socialise and I enjoyed the buzz in comparison to the big suburbs which were a lot quieter. Trains and trams are regular, so its easy to get about in the city (I often preferred walking) and getting to and from both the accommodation and work was very easy.

The accommodation is basic and I wasn't sure what to make of it but it quickly becomes your very own space to live and if I'm honest, I was only sleeping there at night, I didn't spend a whole lot of time there.

Lana, the social coordinator, is great, she's extremely well connected and knows exactly what's going on and coming up in Melbourne. Meeting other interns was great too and learning their stories and where they had come from. During my time it was a bit of a lull in numbers, which is a shame because the australian summer was just getting started and the weather was generally great.
