About Program

Our Combined Level 5 TEFL Certificate (168 hours) is regulated by Ofqual (UK) and approved by the DEAC (US), so has official recognition from 2 government-recognised bodies! This makes all the difference when applying for jobs.

This course will give you a strong understanding of what employers are looking for. Complete 10 hours in the classroom in addition to 158 hours of online study. Some teachers prefer to have some in-class experience besides online study, so our combined course gives you exactly that.

You will learn so much from other students in the classroom and have the opportunity to actually teach! The 10-hour weekend class is designed to break down the fundamentals of TEFL.

The TEFL Academy - definitely worth it!

Myself and my boyfriend did our tefl course with The TEFL Academy. We started in April 2018 and completed it in December 2018. We both worked full-time which is why it took us the extra 3 months to complete the 168 hour course. The course itself is absolutely amazing. It really gives you all the tools you need to put what you already know into practice. If we ever had any trouble the support team were always an email or a phone call away. They're very fast and efficient when it comes to getting back to you. They have excellent customer service. We both throughly enjoyed the course and are now working in Phnom Penh, Cambodia thanks to it. We would, and do, recommend this course whenever we get the chance to. It's 100 percent worth every penny.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be confident, go with the flow. You'll never win unless you try. It's either win or learn.

First time travel

I completed the course so I can take my first travel experience, and will be going solo. I am heading to Hanoi, Vietnam in September where I will initially holiday and adventure, then meet up with friends to celebrate my birthday in October for Island hopping in the Philippines. From there I will seek work as a TEFL Teacher around November in an undecided location. I hope to do this part time or even some online, as this will maximise flexibility and time for myself. I hope the New Year will offer a working visit to Japan and/or South Korea, but I am most excited that no plan is the best plan and meeting people and hearing of their experiences along the way will mostly be how I decide where to go.
By completing this course I can now work anywhere in the world which has been a life goal for a long time but had always waited on someone to travel with.. I am feeling really empowered now that this year I have ended a relationship, quit my job, bought my flights, completed my course and am in the process of selling my car and belongings... I can't wait to see what the next chapter has to offer!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would purchase the course when I was ready to start studying as there are regular sales online and the extensions can be pricey. I would also ensure I had more free time to dedicate to completing the course quicker

Teaching can be fun!

I am very satisfied with the Combined Level 5 TEFL course. The practical side, when we had an opportunity to work in groups and to prepare our own lessons, was really exciting. We were shown how to deliver an interesting and at the same time a valuable lesson. I realised that teaching (both children and adults) doesn't have to be boring and trite. I also understood that the right attitude and a bit of creativity can really make a difference in teaching English. The online materials were challenging, especially the assignments, but thanks to them I managed to practice further and deepen the knowledge gained during the course.
I would happily recommend this course to people who feel that combining teaching and travelling is something they would enjoy doing.

What was your funniest moment?
Trying to learn Mandarin. It was very hilarious when people tried to repeat some words in a completely new language.

Worth the investment!!

110% would recommend!
I was hesitant to try a TEFL Course for a couple of years because I didn't like the idea of working in a classroom. But the TEFL Academy showed me there were other ways to teach such as online and in business settings.
The course itself was very well put together, well thought out and straightforward to manage alongside my day job. No stone is left unturned: there is the main course information and then extra videos, articles and books are provided for anyone looking to delve a bit more into the subject.
I completed the course feeling fully informed of my options for a career as well as confident in the material I had learned.
For anyone who is looking to travel and work on the go, this programme is a must as it will provide with such freedom!

What would you improve about this program?
A little more time to spend actually teaching on the weekend in London.

The TEFL Academy

I studied the Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) and it was really worthwhile. I gained invaluable knowledge that I can put to good use when I go travelling. The online course was easy to navigate through and I felt that I always had support from the TEFL team should I find myself in any bother. There was a lot of work involved between eleven unit tests and three assignments but it was definitely beneficial. If I had any piece of advice to offer it would be to enrol when you have the time to commit yourself to the course. 168 hours may not sound like a lot but there is a huge amount of content that you have to navigate through. As I said, it's all beneficial, so it's not time wasted! You will be glad you did it once you have the certificate in your hands!

What would you improve about this program?
The final assignment, as I found it to be repetitive.

Very very good!

I found the TEFL course I did to be very well-structured and all of the concepts were explained clearly. The two classroom days were very helpful, especially as the teacher had completed the course and used the qualification to get work abroad. The slides on the website are easy to navigate, and the tests at the end of each module were properly designed to recall everything we had learned. It was funny to see the developers of this course using the teaching methodologies they were telling us about on us, but they proved their effectiveness!
The feedback on the long assignments is exhaustive in detail, and helps you improve each time.
I would recommend anyone to do a TEFL course, not only can you teach English, you are given an insight into how teaching any group any subject works best, which is useful for anyone who wants to tutor people professionally or work somewhere where they will be doing a lot of mentoring or briefings. We didn't just learn grammar, but how the psychology of the class can work, and how ideas about language teaching have evolved over recent decades.
Sometimes discounts are available on the price of the course just before their closing.

What would you improve about this program?
The assignment pages were quite long with relatively little signposting, so it was a little difficult to find exactly what you needed to check when going back later.
It could be easy to not fully submit an assignment, as when you click 'Save,' the page refreshes and you're at the top of the long page again. A reminder to scroll down would be helpful, because otherwise it looks like you're already finished. But the email confirming that you've submitted your assignment does part of this job already, if you're expecting it.

Comprehensive course with great Teaching instructions

I really liked this course, overall it was excellent. Having done teacher training before it actually helped improve my understanding of teaching further. It was really comprehensive, and covered all areas of teaching as best as an online course could. The units are fairly straightforward and the assignments really help to consolidate what you have learnt, by actually putting it into practise. You can raise support tickets if you need help, and they are normally answered within 24 hours.

The in-person weekend seminar was really good as well, as it helped people to see TEFL teaching in practice, and to practise those skills too. The instructors make sure that there is a lot of interaction between participants and also get them to design their own lesson and present it to the class - which is good practise.

What would you improve about this program?
I Think differentiation could be focused on a bit more as it's important. They could also go more into detail about the struggles/problems different nationalities commonly face with the english language as I don't think there was enough focus on that (e.g. Arabs find x difficult, the spanish find x difficult). But the course was really good overall.

The TEFL academy

The support system for this course was excellent. Whenever I had an issue or was stuck on a particular point I was able to send a "ticket" to the providers which they responded to within the following 24 hours. The course was also both practical and informative. It contained numerous useful links for obtaining further information on teaching TEFL. Some of these links contained useful videos to explain how to teach a certain subject. Because of this, O could tell that the provider had certainly thoroughly researched the subject.
The assignments were both challenging but yet if practice use. There is plenty of review exercises in the course to consolidate what I had learnt.
Overall the course is intensive, and though it is a little more expensive then other course of a similar nature, it is worth the cost.

What would you improve about this program?
The process to receive the certificate needs to be a little clearer.
