I recently completed the TEFL Academy online program and, overall, it was a valuable experience that has equipped me well for my teaching career. However, there are several areas where the program could be improved to enhance the learning experience further.

Firstly, while the content is comprehensive, adding more interactive elements like quizzes, interactive videos, and gamified modules would make the learning process more engaging. Additionally, the inclusion of more live sessions with experienced instructors would be beneficial for real-time interaction and feedback.

The program provides feedback on assignments, but it could be more detailed and personalized to help students understand their strengths and areas for improvement better. Moreover, offering more practical teaching experiences, such as virtual classrooms and peer teaching sessions, would better prepare students for real-world teaching scenarios.

Another area for improvement is the variety of teaching resources available. Expanding the library of lesson plans, teaching aids, and ESL materials would be helpful. After 28 years of TESOL teaching, I recently enrolled at The TEFL Academy for a refresher certificate. What a wonderfully enriching experience! Their guidelines, support, and comprehensive course materials made for a seamless and rewarding learning process. I was really impressed by their prompt feedback and assessment. Within a couple of weeks after completion, I had both electronic and hard copies of my internationally accredited certificate. Impressive and highly recommended. It is certainly ideal for new teachers!

What would you improve about this program?

Whereas there is almost nothing to fault about this course, I'd have loved for prospective teachers to have more interaction time during the 10-hour face-to-face session. More time for teachers to collaborate and less Trainer Talk Time.

From the minute I started the course I was impressed. The overall design of the eLearning platform and content of The TEFL Academy Level 5 Online course is amazing. It is easy to follow and comprehend the material and the activities are so much fun. I absolutely enjoyed the exercises and assignments. I have never taught a day in my life but after completing the course I feel confident enough to tackle any situation in the classroom or online. I will also recommend you watch their YouTube Channel to get insightful videos and tips from assignments to how to present and tackle lessons. Highly recommend The TEFL Academy.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

I would make more time to complete the course and start travelling sooner.

The level 5 course with TTA was a challenging, yet engaging experience. The timeframe given encourages you to spend time in TEFL daily, however it does become stressful if life gets in the way. Overall, a positive experience where I was able to learn at my own pace and receive valuable feedback on assignments and any questions I had. Further reading links and videos were also helpful in understanding themes and topics in an insightful and logical manner. The efficiency of the TTA staff is commendable!

What was your funniest moment?

I couldn’t figure out how to set assignments up! TTA gives you a wonderful template to use, however I was almost certain it couldn’t be that straightforward and emailed to ask for assistance. Turns out it was that easy!

It also makes things smoother with the support and feedback given to us by qualified lecturers and moderators.

I would recommend it to everyone I come across.

I'd stop being lazy and would have completed it sooner so that I could start my journey sooner.

The course was very helpful and insightful. It definitely helps with understanding lesson planning better. The assignments weren't too easy and challenged you to do more research and understanding of the topics. The business top up course is surprisingly interesting! It would have been nice of the top up courses showed up on the dashboard automatically and did not require a second enrollment. I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I really liked the included hanbooks, it will be very useful in the future, especially in class.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Don't be scared or intimidated of the top up busses course! It is actually very interesting and insightful , not difficult at all.

Within the next month I am going to Cambodia. And this would not have been possible if it was not for the TEFL Academy, especially for Henri. He assisted me through the entry process and answered all my questions I had. The course was extremely helpful in every way. I know for sure that I am going to use most of the materials in my own classroom one day. Stay focused during everything and make a lot of notes because one day you want to look back and use them. It is always helpful to look back at old notes and find something new to use.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

I would have worked through the study material more in detail, and I would not have rushed through everything. Luckily, I made a lot of notes, which is very important for first time teachers.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

The one piece of advice I would give is to plan ahead and to do your best. Worrying and stressing won't help you. The resources, as well as the markers, are there to assist and help you achieve your best. Planning ahead is beneficial as you do not want to get stuck with a pile of work and then have to ask for an extension. Just do your absolute best and you will reap the rewards.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

The TEFL course spanned over a period of 6 months which gave me ample time to complete my course accordingly. Some units take more time than others to complete, but if you plan and stick to that plan, you will not have a problem. The TEFL site also makes it easy and exciting to learn so that you do not get bored or frustrated during your study session.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

I have no been abroad yet for TEFL teaching, but I am surely looking into it. I would love to travel to Asia, as I have been to India once and I absolutely loved it. I would like to visit Japan, South Korea, and China as a TEFL teacher and hopefully start my career there. I look forward to new experiences and challenges.

Any other tips for any prospective traveler?

India is a fantastic country, not quite like what I initially perceived it to be. The people are genuine and the country itself is a true wonder. My advice to anyone traveling there is to absorb as much as he/she/they can. India is rich with culture and history, full of diversity. Visiting places such as the Taj Mahal brings a totally different feeling, the atmosphere is spectacular. India is a beautiful country and so are its people.
