About Program

At the TEFL Academy, our course leads to a Level 5 TEFL Certificate (168 hours), regulated by Ofqual (UK) and the DEAC (US) so it’s certified by two government bodies!

Our course is designed so that you can understand your potential employers. Within the industry, some employers prefer “hands on” study rather than purely online, and our combined course provides 20 hours in the classroom with an additional 148 hours of online study. This course will give you additional confidence to handle face-to-face teaching, and allow you to have a competitive edge in the job marketplace.

The 20-hour weekend classroom course is designed to breakdown the fundamentals of TEFL. Within those 20 hours you will have teaching opportunities and gain knowledge from other students in the classroom.

Level 5 TEFL program course

I undertook the Level 5 TEFL course in hopes to teach abroad. I was not prepared for how lengthy the chapters would be and had started off committed to note taking which prolonged the length of time I took to finish the course. However, after Assignment A I realised you don't have to study too intently to pass the assignments. You can always go back to each chapter at any time. I enjoyed the learning activities although there could have been a bit more for checking understanding. The website is designed fairly well and easy to navigate. I found it a bit annoying however to constantly get logged out for being inactive for a little while. Besides being tedious at times the course content is overall very informative. I learned quite a lot of things I had not known about the English language beforehand. It also gives helpful guides and tips to teaching. Any queries I had through the course were addressed usually within a day or two. As far as what happens after completion of the course, I can't say much as I'm still applying for jobs (completed a month ago) nor can I comment on how ready the course gets you to teach. I was unfortunately under the impression that they would assist you more actively in finding placements but the help given after completion is simply links to job sites. If you're not from the developed (first world) English speaking nations, such as myself, be warned there are countries that will not want you. Something I had inquired about prior to undertaking the course but was assured not to worry about. This is obviously quite disappointing as it should be about a teacher's qualifications and capability.

Pros
  • The course was informative and detailed
  • It's in my opinion not too expensive for what you get
  • You receive help and responses to queries through the course
Cons
  • Simply providing links to job sites is not exactly the help I was expecting to receive in finding jobs
  • Disclaimer should be included about a lot of countries only wanting teachers from certain nations so I'm questioning if the course was worth it

The TEFL Academy Level 5 qualification

I started this year unsure of what I wanted to do during my gap year. I have always enjoyed teaching so when I heard about this course I jumped right in. I really enjoyed the course and loved how easy and accessible it was to do. The assignments were challenging in a good way (they get you to think out of the box) and the end of unit tests are great for checking which work needs revision. I enjoyed the course so much that I am actually upset that it's over. Although, I am excited for what's to come.

Pros
  • I learned a lot about teaching
  • A short and engaging course
  • Affordable

I recently completed my level 5 course and it’s been an amazing experience. I am yet to find a job but it has only been a few days since i finished so i am very hopeful.

It was an amazing experience. The tutors are very specific when giving you feedback on your assignments and the assignments are very challenging, they require you to do a lot of research. The support team is wonderful! They respond to you as soon as yesterday. The assignments provide you with some sort of practical experience, especially assignment B, there were times when i literally felt like i was in the classroom because i had to plan a full lesson and be realistic about everything i would say and materials i would use

Pros
  • You work at your own pace
  • Can be done part time
  • Tutors are very specific in their feedbacks.
Cons
  • Some activities can be completed using a phone, you need access to a laptop

TEFL COMBINED LEVEL 5 COURSE

This course is very comprehensive, it covers everything that you would need to become a successful TEFL teacher. The Units are structured well with a End of Unit test after each unit. The assignments are really challenging and a lot of research needs to be done. This is good as it stretches your capacity in those areas..... The markers are really thorough in their feedback to you as they really personalize the feedback according to your assignment submitted. Also, the support is very competent, they were so quick to respond when I had a query, they were really professional.

Pros
  • Work at your own pace
  • Good Structure
  • Learn more about the English Language

Level 5 TEFL course with the TEFL Academy

I completed the Level 5 TEFL course through the TEFL Academy. The was professionally structured with relevant material that helped me gain an understanding not only of what is required of an English Foreign Language teacher, but what it means to be a foreign English teacher and how much impact that role can have. The course is great value for money with great information and instruction as well as access to a plethora of inspiring resources and helpful tools. I would definitely recommend this course to people who are looking for a short and very doable course to expand their CV for potential employers.

Complex and Fun

The course was informative and to the point. There wasn't any useless information that was used just to fill space. I also like that further research and reading wasn't obligational, especially when you're already familiar with the content. The content provided was fun to learn and the assignments weren't too challenging and were fun to do. They taught you how to do the actual job rather than teaching you just to pass the assignments and quizzes. This is something that a lot of programs do not do as they only teach you to finish the course. All in all the experience was great.

What would you improve about this program?
Allow a more interactive communication platform between the tutors and the students.

Review of my study experience with The TEFL Academy

My experience studying through the TEFL Academy was great! The coursework was well laid out and sectioned into categories that made learning easy and fun. The learning platform was easy to understand and navigate. Assignments were very clear with instructions and the tests helped you gauge your understanding as you progress through the coursework. Support from staff on email was prompt and helpful. If you are wanting to work online or teach overseas, The TEFL ADacemy is a great place to get your TEFL qualification.

Cilmari - TEFL

An interesting course with so much to learn! I have my degree in Education, but this course has so many new activities and ways of teaching that I would love to use in my class one day.

The level of English is advanced but nothing to be afraid of. My Home Language is Afrikaans and I did not struggle at all.

This course is beneficial for every person whom may want to teach and travel and are proficient in English.

If you weigh al the benefits, this course is also really affordable - especially with the TEFL Academy.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Don’t wait for six months to finish it.
There is more than enough time, but don’t wait to rush it all in the last three weeks. It is beter to do it as soon as you buy it.
