About Program

Kurios is for young adults who want to experience life to the full.
As a Christian Gap Year experience located in Jasper, Alberta, the Rocky Mountains of Canada is the place where we explore who we are, where we fit, and Who made us, loves us, and wants us to flourish.

We live, learn, and serve in a community of like-minded young adults who want to explore how to live as followers of Jesus, humbling serving the world God has made for us to enjoy. Our program includes outdoor adventure, teaching, mentorship, volunteer opportunities, and leadership development. As a small program, we focus on individual relationships and personal growth. We travel throughout western Canada, meeting people and serving and learning.

Our experience includes 5+ weeks in Guatemala with partner churches, where we learn Spanish, teach English, serve churches, and experience Guatemalan culture.

A life-changing experience

Hello, my name is Arielle MacKinnin and I am a Kurios alumni and from the first group at Kurios.
It was such an amazing experience, that was solely focused on building relationships with others, learning about God, what it means to be a follower of Jesus and have faith. It also was about bonding with others and helping others grow in their faith,
This was a life-changing experience with lots of experiences such as hiking, mountain biking, cooking, bonfires, camping and many other fond memories.
Kurios is worth doing and being a part of!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
The Kurios gap-year program is worth taking, it might seem scary at first however, but in the end you will make long-lasting friendships,
There is a few things I would suggest: one, bring hiking shoes (I did but if you don’t you might regret it), two have a small amount for savings money or if you need toiletries but they will not let you starve:), 3 bring a Bible and notebooks and anything to write with!
There’s probably more things but I can’t think of them at the moment.
Pros
  • Read lots of the Bible
  • You get to travel a lot
  • It’s impossible to go to Kurios and not learn new things about God, and about yourself.
Cons
  • Long Drives
  • Sometimes early mornings (not a morning person)
  • Due to Covid-19 I didn’t get to leave Canada
