I went to Croatia last summer with TFT and had no idea what to expect. Of course I saw the videos of making lifelong friendships and having an amazing time in picturesque locations, but I wasn’t sure if that would be my experience. To my delight it was everything I imagined and more. The staff, fellow travelers, and destination were all perfect. We were always in the center of all the action, doing the most fun activities, and most importantly, we were always safe. I would recommend this trip to anyone, it’s an absolute no brainer!

What was your funniest moment?

The funniest moment on our trip was on our last night on the boat when we were all running around and dancing. It felt like I was in one of the Mamma Mia movies and is a memory I will cherish forever.

Croatia island hopping is one of the best experiences I have had with Travel for Teens. From hanging out on a boat all day with all of my new friends to hiking and swimming! The staff is very well trained helping me from the moment I got my phone stolen finding me a store to buy a new one and even helping me set it up. Everyone is very welcoming and is willing to help. The boat is small but it leads to a great time and lots of bonding experiences! The trip is an always changing trip where you are moving day by day so be ready for lots of changing plans.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

My advice to future travelers is to be open to new experiences and to talk to everyone.

I went on this trip July of 2017 and had the time of my life! I instantly made friends with everyone on the trip and that made the whole trip even more fun! Exploring new cultures and sites everyday, going shopping and trying unique foods, seeing historical landmarks and meeting new people, this trip was a dream! Whether you've traveled the world, or have never been on a plane, this is the perfect program for you. I highly recommend it. Go TFT!

This trip was the highlight of any trip I have ever taken. I loved being on the boat sailing the Adriatic with good people beside me. The most memorable moment was when we were at sail and we all lied down on the top of the boat and just listened to music and stared at the sky. One of my friends said "You know where I want to be right now? right here in this moment." It was a great trip overall and I will never forget the connections I made!

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Expect the unexpected and make the most of it! A lot of the time, trips don't go by the detailed itineraries you wrote up weeks in advance. Have fun with it and don't stress about it!

Also, try not to live through the lens of your iPhone camera during your time abroad. Live it in real life and actually experience it.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

When I first went abroad, I was very nervous about not knowing any of the people I was travelling with. I was anxious to meet them, but also nervous because I wanted to get along with everyone.

What I have started doing before my trips is email them all and say hello! Follow each other on social media like Instagram or Facebook. It really makes you feel like you're already friends even though you're meeting in the airport for the first time.

What do you wish you had known ahead of time/what would you tell your friends who are thinking about going overseas?

I wish I had known how to pack minimal and light! Nothing is worse than packing a giant suitcase for a one week trip and then having to pay baggage fees for it being overweight by the time you come home.

I have learned to only pack carry on, and keep everything to a minimum!

What is your favorite memory from your time abroad?

I have met life long travel partners through going overseas. My favorite memory is sailing the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia with my friend Harriet and laying on a dingy singing our favorite songs all day.

Another memory I have is playing cards and icebreaker games at the Newark airport when one of our flights to Germany got cancelled!

What would you tell others who are considering going abroad?

To my friends thinking about going abroad, I would tell them that it has completely transformed my young adult life and I am sure it will shape me into the adult I will be someday.

Going abroad is such a valuable experience and I think everyone should do it in their teen years.
