About Program
Dive into coral reef ecology where it happens—underwater. This blended summer program begins with three weeks of mostly asynchronous online coursework before students travel to Belize for a two-week field expedition at Glover’s Reef Research Station on remote Middle Caye. Students explore oceanography, marine biology, and marine conservation while snorkeling the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world.
Through snorkeling, fieldwork, and hands-on research, students explore coral reef ecology, oceanography, marine biology, and conservation. Participants learn common marine research techniques, develop and conduct their own research projects, analyze their findings, and present their work at the end of the program. The experience combines intensive science education with opportunities to explore Belize’s culture, tropical forests, wildlife, and ancient Maya history.
