Why did you study abroad with GlobaLinks at JCU in Townsville?

Kelsey: After deciding Australia was the country I wanted to spend my time abroad in, I looked at different programs and decided GlobaLinks was the best. The website and everyone working for GlobaLinks were so helpful in picking the school I wanted to attend.

I chose James Cook University Townsville for multiple reasons. I liked that JCU was a smaller campus where I could get to know people and be involved. Another factor is choosing JCU Townsville was the location, I wanted to be away from big cities. The campus is isn't to far from the rainforest, Great Barrier Reef, and there was a gorgeous island located right off the coast of Townsville.

What made your study abroad experience unique and special?

Kelsey: Part of what made this experience so unique and special was the way GlobaLinks ran their program. Before starting school we spent a week with other students from the U.S. who would be at JCU. This week helped everyone to create bonds with other students with similar interests.

The people I met during my first week in Australia were the people I traveled with. Australia is so beautiful and has so many amazing places to visit. I loved getting to travel around the county with people who wanted the same adventure I wanted.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Kelsey: My time abroad impacted my future by giving me more confidence. I feel now more than ever I can put myself out there, where as before I may have been more hesitant. Moving to another country for a semester where you know no one can be a scary concept. Through this experience I discovered I can figure things out on my own.
