Why did you choose this program?
I wanted to put myself outside my comfort zone and embrace the opportunity to see another way of living. I never imagined the connection and support I would receive from IVHQ. The experience has enlightened me in everyday. The people I met was the most rewarding. If you have any open mind and heart, it's the most exciting experience
What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?
The program gave me safely and security in a very foreign country. The organisation was spot on. From orientation to the final day. I had the support and care needed. I never expected to have such deep connection with the kids and teachers. The whole experience was unexpected. We felt we made a significant contribution to the future of the school. Particularly when we painted each classroom
What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?
Go with an open mind. It can be confronting but rewarding. The people make the placement special they welcomed me with open arms and hearts. It will stay with you for life the memories created. I always felt safe and comfortable. The arrangements were brilliant. I really had the most wonderful time.
What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?
We woke early. Our host made breakfast for us then we took tuk tuk to school. Start in class with kids where we assisted in teaching drawing learning and sports. Start at 8am finish at 4pm.back to accommodation with booked tuk tuk. Dinner was prepared by host. Sometimes we would go get water from local shop.
Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?
I didn't want to be alone as a foreigner. I had 1 girl with me at start then a second. We got along really well being together 24/7. We became each others support. Our host welcomed us and made us all feel well at home. There was great food to eat, clean fresh water and a comfortable bed.i was able to enjoy my stay and felt very comfortable in my environment
