Photos

Kayla works as part of the admissions team to help guide students through the application and pre-departure process until they depart for their term abroad.

She taught English abroad for three years in South Korea and Spain, and she now applies her experience living abroad to help guide and prepare students for their life-changing experiences to come from studying abroad.

What is your favorite travel memory?

When I traveled to Segovia, Spain several years ago as part of a high school summer trip to Spain, I got lost on my way back to my host mother's home...for two hours!

This experience actually turned out to be so motivational to apply my budding Spanish skills to ask locals how to get to my host mother's address. Everyone ended up giving me different directions, and as a result, I saw so much more of the beautiful city than I ever would have seen otherwise.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Before working for this company, most of my experience in working with students had been in the classroom to help them gain confidence in their second language skills. Now, as an advisor, I guide students to apply their language skills while living and studying abroad.

My passion for helping students has continued to grow immensely from this position, and I am so grateful to be supporting students to reach their goals in language immersion and development.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I recently had a student I advised attend our program in Seville during the summer months. She enjoyed her experience so much that she decided to attend another program with us this coming term in another location for a full semester.

Having a student fall in love with a country so much in their short term abroad that they would choose another of our longer-term programs always reminds me of my own experiences living abroad and finding your home away from home.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Having studied abroad in Spain previously, I would love to participate in one of our programs in Havana, Cuba to be able to explore a part of the world I haven't seen yet.

Cuba has such a rich and diverse cultural heritage full of positivity even through trials and adversity. And did I mention their musical heritage? Salsa, Rumba, and Jazz, and so much more! We also offer both short-term and semester-long programs in this location to appeal to a variety of student timelines.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

We are proud to offer unique programs with support from our US staff before departure and on-site support from our Resident Directors after arrival. We also offer flexibility in our programs to help suit our students and their university's needs.

I am especially proud of our company's history in international education, and the new steps we are taking to offer more programs to fit a variety of student needs, like our May term in Barcelona that started just last year.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Passion is everything. All members of our team are passionate about international education and helping students. We truly want to help students find the best program for them, and we stand behind the quality of our programs. Also, we are celebrating 50 years of excellence this year, and we look forward to 50 more.
