Staff Spotlight: Josh Parsons

Title:
Instructor Manager
Passionate about education, but outside of work, he enjoys crocheting, spending time with his pets, and finding creative ways to unwind and recharge.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Travelling to Hawaii with my partner, spending time exploring Waikiki, the North Shore, the Koʻolau area, and hiking Diamond Head. It was wonderful to experience somewhere so different while still feeling comfortable and fun. If I were able to return, I would love to spend more time exploring the other islands of Hawaii.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since joining, I’ve been able to develop my managerial experience and grow in my career. I’ve become much more confident handling difficult situations, more flexible in my approach, and have learned a lot about teaching and working closely alongside others. This has also helped me outside of work as I always feel more capable and ready for new things.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

The best story I’ve heard from a student was from someone who decided to study at university to become an English teacher. They even changed their overseas study destination to the UK because they wanted to learn more about my home country, which was incredibly meaningful to me. Having any kind of impact on students is a lovely thing.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

If I could choose a program to join, I’d love to go on Minds Abroad, especially the Chinese classes and activities. I love learning languages, and being immersed in the culture through hands-on activities would make it such a fun and memorable experience. I would love to be able to widen my view by learning more languages!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

My team is wonderfully diverse, and I’m proud that we’re able to share different ideas and perspectives. I always want to give people the opportunity to take the lead on ideas they’re passionate about and help bring them to life. It's always lovely to see someone who is driven to find a solution to a problem or situation!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Being a successful company starts with having a clear goal that everyone can get behind. When you genuinely connect with that goal, you can fully commit to supporting your team and helping move things forward, whatever route you take to get there. If you can agree on the destination, I think you can always accept any differences that get you there.
