What is your favorite travel memory?
While living in Japan, I had the opportunity to visit my old university friends who now live in Taiwan. I brought them both American and Japanese souvenirs. The night markets were wonderful, and everyone was so friendly. Since I already live in Asia, it was an easy trip to make. Please stop by soon.
How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?
Since my first year I have learned how to adapt to a different way of life and a culture very different from my own. I influenced people of all ages either through my lessons at school or my daily interactions as a manager. While it has not been easy, I have grown so much here. I think it is great!!
What is the best story you've heard from a return student?
I met a student who I used to teach in elementary school. He remembered how difficult it was for him to learn English but he never gave up. He graduated university with the ability to now speak Japanese, Chinese & English! There is always a chance to influence others. This job gives the opportunity.
If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?
Recently free Japanese lessons from beginner to advanced have been created and seeing how many people join those lessons shows how important it is to the instructors. As there are not always chances to meet coworkers, it is a great opportunity to meet, greet and study. Take advantage of our courses.
What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?
Every year there is an overnight camping event for the junior high school students in the Nakano area. It can be up to 4 days, 3 nights, & a new school comes each day. The teachers & I try to make it as fun and intersting as possible and the thank you letters from the students make it worth while!!
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
The idea that everyone and everything needs to change and adapt to the environment. What was good a few years ago may be barely acceptable to the clients. Providing support for our teachers and clients and learning from the past is how we remain successful. Also to never give up and try again.
