Why choose lowernine.org?

lowernine.org is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in the long-term recovery of New Orleans' historic Lower Ninth Ward from Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches of 2005. We do home repairs and renovations on storm-damaged properties, and full rebuild and new construction build for residential properties of pre-Katrina Lower Ninth Ward residents. Our ultimate goal is to return every displaced pre-Katrina resident that wishes to return to safe, affordable housing in their community.

100% of the homes in our neighborhood were rendered uninhabitable after the levee breaches. However, to date, lowernine.org has fully rebuilt eighty-eight homes, and has completed smaller repair and renovation projects on over two hundred more homes, bringing back more Lower Ninth Ward families than any other single organization. But as of 2016, population return is only 36.7% – lagging far behind the rest of the City of New Orleans.
