Brno in Summer is amazing! And the courses at MUNI are also great :-)

My two weeks in Brno were very well spent, and the organization by the International Office and academic staff at Masaryk University was on point.

The academic curriculum of the summer school Language, Culture, and Mind offered a detailed introduction to the theory and methods of Cultural and partly Cognitive Linguistics. The atmosphere in class was always productive and respectful, with just the right amount of challenge and summerly lightness. The group was the perfect mix from various disciplines, which made for very interesting contributions from varying perspectives.

The non-academic side was noticeably well thought through and organized. There was always something to do, with the possibility to opt out. The best part was to grab lunch or a coffee with my classmates and to chat about life and work in places from Turkey through Sweden to Taiwan. All of this in this amazing Central European city called Brno, which truly is a hidden gem, especially during summer.

On a very small downside, the Internet connection at the hotel was so bad that I had to do the work I had unfortunately brought from home either at the university or using a hotspot on my phone. I can also recommend finding a nice bar or restaurant and getting the work done there. There are so many nice places in Brno.

Also, the final party took place on a boat on a perfect summer day! I mean, come-on...

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Bring more comfortable shoes. The hills...
Pros
  • Beautiful city!!
  • Perfect organization
  • Affordable
Cons
  • WiFi at the hotel was bad
  • The beds and furniture at the hotel are also not the best

Life Changing!

As I embarked on this adventure, I wasn't sure how living in a new country would be. Thankfully, going to the Czech Republic exceeded my expectations in so many ways. Not only did I grow professionally, but I learned so many extra skills through the trips, activities, and classes I was able to go to. Getting to explore different cultures, try different foods, and meet students outside of my university at home was so exciting. The best part is realizing that all of these students are in the adventure with you, so I never felt alone. This experience changed how I view so many different things, and I am so grateful to have spent my summer in the Czech Republic!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking moment for me was going out in BRNO and having to speak Czech, and interact with all of the local people. I was so nervous that I was going to stand out and annoy people because my Czech skills were not amazing. But, after grocery shopping, exploring the city, and meeting locals, I realized that I had no reason to be worried. The advisors from Masaryk were so helpful in recommending places, giving advice, and being friends. The local people are so kind and welcoming too! I am so glad I was able to step outside of my comfort zone for this program.
Pros
  • Communication
  • Adventure

A memorable summer experience

This two-week action packed summer experience at the Summer School of Masaryk university was one of the most remarkable experiences in my life. I was taking a two-week course on 3D printing in Pharmaceutics and I learned quite a lot both in a practical and in a theoretical sense. The afternoon activities were also amazing, everything from town excursions in Brno to physical activities like dancing and sports. Not only I have widen my knowledge in 3D pharmaceutical printing, but also met new friends. I highly recommend it, you won't regret it.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would change nothing. All was perfect.
Pros
  • Learned more about 3D printing in pharmaceutics
  • Explored Czechia
  • Met new friends
Cons
  • I got sick

Summer School 2025

Attending the Summer School program on Methods of Forensic Analysis was an amazing experience!

From the very beginning, the information provided before the program started made it clear that it was carefully structured, taking into account transportation, accommodation, everyday life needs and safety rules. The supportive staff and their student-friendly approach genuinely made me feel comfortable and confident about my decision.

The daily schedule included lectures, laboratory sessions and group activities. Each day was different, keeping the program dynamic. The mornings usually focused on theoretical lectures, where basic concepts of forensic analysis and analytical chemistry were explained. After the theoretical lectures, we had laboratory work, which allowed us to see how the theory we learned could be used in real forensic scenarios.

The professors and laboratory staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were always available to clarify doubts and offer guidance during laboratory sessions.

Overall, this summer school is an excellent opportunity for students who want to deepen their knowledge in forensic analysis and gain hands-on experience in a well-structured environment. It offers much more than academic content as it provides a space where students can grow, connect with others, and gain confidence.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moment of the program was the first day, when we were given a challenge to explore the whole city and take funny pictures. Running around with people we had just met was definitely one of the highlights!
Pros
  • well-structured program
  • supportive staff
  • international environment

One-month Exchange Journey in Brno: Short and Surprising

I have just completed a one-month exchange program in Brno, Czech Republic. While the duration was short, the professional and personal growth I experienced was significant.

Brno proved to be an exceptional environment for academic focus. As a hub for technology and education in Central Europe, the city radiates an intellectual energy that is contagious. The facilities at the university were modern, and the opportunity to collaborate with international peers provided me with fresh perspectives that I will carry into my future studies/career.

Beyond the classroom, this month taught me the value of adaptability. Navigating a new culture and language—even for a short period—forces you to step out of your comfort zone. I was particularly impressed by the city's efficiency and the warmth of the local academic community, who went out of their way to ensure we had a productive stay.

I highly recommend Brno to anyone looking for an exchange destination that prioritizes education and innovation without the distractions of a massive tourist hub. It was a productive, enriching month that added real value to my academic journey.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I think I would try to reach out to the students from another countries more, because studying abroad is really a good chance to learn more people and have the cultural exchange.
Pros
  • Experienced many novel stuffs
  • Learn some of new friends
  • Gain more new knowledge which is very interesting
Cons
  • Didn't really get used to the food and living environment there
  • Kinda huge workload
  • Language difficulties
