Community Garden Experience

Our job in Guatemala was to help the Indigenous Mayan women build a community garden from almost nothing. During a typical day we would ride to the garden on the back of a pick up tuck 30 minutes into the mountains and stop at our plot of land and build raised beds, shovel dirt, create terracing for the garden etc. On the off days we would go to Mayan Families headquarters and research educational materials to teach to the women about nutrition, gardening, and other heath related topics. On the weekends we would visit nearby lake towns off of Lake Atitlan and stay in hostiles and meet other amazing travelers.

What would you improve about this program?
More organization. We needed a little bit more time to organize the trip before we got there, but overall it was the best experience of my life and I hope to travel again somewhere else and do the same.
