Building a school

In 2021, I had the chance to discover Miracle Works Educational Complex in Ghana and participated in doing some construction work. Seth, Naomi, and the children were incredible, and I will always remember this beautiful experience and the moments. I can only highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to do some volunteering.

That was my first volunteering experience and I think this is something that everyone should do once in a lifetime. And on top of helping others, you also realize it benefits you, as it is a very gratifying experience.

Pros
  • The Children
  • The motivation of Seth and Naomi in this project
  • The feeling of being useful
Cons
  • Traveling in this region in covid time (2021)

Extremely dedicated and heartwarming NGO with a big impact

Through my sister, I had the opportunity to get to know the NGO and even spend a week on-site. It was incredibly moving to see how the small team, with limited resources but immense dedication, fought every day to give the children the best possible chance for a better future.

The team works with great transparency and commitment, approaching new projects thoughtfully to ensure they are sustainable and make a lasting impact.

As a volunteer, you will be warmly welcomed by Seth, Naomi, and the teachers. Seth genuinely cares about the well-being of the volunteers, and Naomi’s cooking was the best I had during my five weeks in Ghana (and Ghanaian food is already amazing! :-)).

If you’re looking for an NGO where you can be sure that both money and effort go directly to those who need it most, I can highly recommend this one—both for donations and as a volunteer. They are currently in urgent need of sponsors for the teachers, as their salaries cannot always be paid regularly. Children can also be sponsored. The NGO is grateful for any support, helping them take step-by-step action toward giving these children a better future.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The heartwarming welcoming, the dedication of the teachers who muss salaries and still fought everyday for a better future for the children.
Pros
  • Great Impact for the most in need
  • Really get in contact and in touch with Get in contact with Ghanian life and the people in the village
  • Most Heartwarming people who care dor you

One of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had

I’ve traveled a lot, but volunteering for SMWEF was one of the most inspiring and meaningful experiences I’ve ever had. Seth and Naomi are incredibly kind and welcoming, and Naomi’s cooking is amazing. The accommodation is cozy and equipped with Western-style washrooms.

The project is located in rural Ghana, where you can experience the country’s authentic culture. I even had the unique opportunity to attend a wedding and a funeral, which gave me a deep insight into their traditions and way of life.

The organization’s work is inspiring and crucial. In a region known for child trafficking, they fight every day to rescue children and give them a chance for a better future through education. The children and the teachers in the school are simply amazing. I enjoyed everyday with them and I miss them a lot.

Many important projects and plans are still in progress, and volunteers are essential in helping to make them happen. If you’re looking to make a real impact, this is the perfect opportunity. Just go for it! 😊

The best descision I could've made!

The St. Miracle Works Educational Foundation is a very heartwarming project. I was there for a month, and it clearly had an impact on how I see life. The kids are full of joy, and everybody is just spreading love and energy. One day after I arrived, the kids already started shouting my name when I passed by and wanted me to wave or just say "hi“. But not only the kids but also the teachers were wonderful! Even though the teaching in Ghana is rougher than where I am from, the love within the teaching is undoubted. The kids love the teachers, and so do the teachers love the kids! Events like running competitions, quizzes, or just dancing and making music make it visible how much of a family the whole project is.

Nevertheless, it is obvious that the project needs all of the help it can get. The project does not have enough money at all. The hosts have to skip meals, teachers can’t get paid regularly, the few books they have are not up to date, workbooks have to be written and drawn by the teachers, and the whole project relies on donations.

And even though the hosts are struggling, they do everything they can to make it the best experience for the volunteers. If there had been a problem, I easily could have told Seth and Naomi (the host family). I think what describes the bonding between the couple and their volunteers the best is that they remember every single volunteer. Their name, where they are from, and what they did in the project. Even after years and years of volunteers.

If you really want to help to change something, this project is the perfect place. It's not about profit; it's about having an impact and changing something in the system. I worked in construction and helped in teaching, and I loved both so, so much. It doesn't matter what kind of field you want to help; construction, teaching, social work, health care, sports stuff, and so on... I know that the St. Miracle Works Educational Foundation is going to make it the best experience that they could give you.

My Best Volunteering Experience

From the first day, their welcoming and warmth towards me have been nothing but clear. Whether it be guiding through Ghanaian culture or teaching construction, they have made more sacrifices than I can count to make sure their volunteers (including me) got a wonderful experience. Having been there 6 weeks, I got the opportunity to experience both construction and the children. Beyond academics, the environment there is better than anything you could imagine. Whilst life is simple, the community, rooted in brotherhood and love, made it pass so much quicker and enjoyable. Really, my time there zoomed through. I would like to also mention how amazing the impact of this project is. By proving food, education, and shelter to underprivileged kids in a rural setting, you really make a difference. Seth always likes to mention how volunteers are the backbone of the organization, and while this is true, none of this could have happened without his and Naomi’s endless dedication. If there is ANY project I could recommend for volunteers, this is the one if you want to make a true difference.
