My TEFL Iberia experience

I was nervous before starting, but from day one the team at TEFL Iberia made me feel welcome. Kaitlin was super helpful with the sign-up process and answered all my questions quickly and clearly, which really put my mind at ease. The tutors were friendly and professional, and the course itself was well-organised and challenging in the best way. I gained so much confidence in my teaching abilities and met some amazing people along the way. I'm really glad I pushed myself to go and I’d definitely recommend it!

Worth all the hard work!

When I first enrolled in the TEFL Iberia course, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I knew it would be demanding, but I underestimated just how much I would learn in such a short space of time. From day one, the course dives straight into the essentials of English language teaching, and the pace doesn't let up, but in the best possible way. We were teaching lessons every week, and also learning so much through our assignments and homework.

What really stood out to me was how structured and well thought-out it was. Each week had a clear focus, from grammar awareness to teaching receptive and productive skills. But more than anything, the focus on practical teaching experience is what made it so worthwhile. We were in the classroom teaching real students from early on, and while it was nerve-wracking at first, it was the fastest way to build confidence and see how the techniques we were learning actually played out.

The tutors were incredible. Each one brought their own experience and personality to the training, which meant we were exposed to a variety of teaching styles. They offered constant support and feedback, always constructive and encouraging, and they clearly cared about helping each of us succeed.

If you’re thinking about signing up, I’d say go for it. It’s intense, yes, but the support is there every step of the way. I left the course feeling confident, capable, and genuinely excited to start my teaching journey. I also made great friends and had a lot of fun in Barcelona, which was a lovely bonus!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure you do the pre-course tasks and some reading first so that you can hit the ground running!

Best time ever!

I didn't realise how thorough the course was going to be. It was intense but I learned so much and the feeling of passing after all my hard work was totally worth it. The tutors really supported me and I loved all my classmates! One of my favourite aspects was the unknown language lessons - we were taught a new language to see what it is like for a learner and that really opened my eyes to how to be a communicative and patient teacher. And obviously spending time in one of the best cities in the world was a big part of how much I enjoyed myself. I totally recommend it if you want to be an English teacher.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Teaching my first lesson! We did icebreakers with real students on the second day of the course and I was so nervous but the students were super lovely and put me at ease :)

The best thing I could have done!

It was my very first time leaving my continent and I highly recommend it! The staff was so welcoming and helpful which was extremely important considering I traveled alone and did not know the language fluently. They provided so much support and honestly more than they needed to which I am extremely grateful. I also was able to make a ton of new friends and meet so many interesting and brilliant people. I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and just go! Thank you TEFL team and I hope to be back in Spain again soon!

Lifechanging Opportunity!

TEFL Iberia has forever changed me as educator. Prior to the program, I had taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in the US for 4 years. I was worried that the program might not be as useful for me as it would for a new teacher, but that feeling quickly faded. Not only did I gain experience teaching adults, but I learned so much about the English language in a few short weeks. The program coordinators and tutors are incredibly knowledgeable, accessible, and understanding. The facilities are beautifully maintained and host a comfortable working/learning environment. I was so thankful to have been setup with a host and living accommodations. Finally, the friendships that I have made with other participants in the program are those that will last a lifetime. Barcelona is magical, and I would do the program all over again in a heartbeat!
