Can older teachers apply for this program?

I am an older American elementary school teacher in California. I possess a valid California multi-subject teaching credential. I would like to teach in Japan with the JET program but read this was for young educators. Are older American teachers with years of experience unable to apply for these positions? I have been an Fulbright educator in the UK and formerly, Assistant Director of the US Peace Corps in Kazakhstan.

As of 2017, the JET Program no longer has any age restrictions on who can apply. Though we have had restrictions in the past, at the current time we welcome applicants of any age to apply. Be aware that this policy may change in the future, so be sure to check the requirements when applying.
