It's not common for the families to have male au pairs. Throughout my 3 months abroad I didn't meet any. However, it depends on the city you go to and the gender of the kids you're working for. I'm sure certain families are specifically looking for a male au pair.

Meeting au pairs is the easiest thing in the world! Just from joining with smaller earth, you will automatically be put into a facebook group of au pairs who are in the same city as you. In Spain especially it is very common for families to have them so there will most likely always be another option if you do not like the original family you are assigned to.
