My Internship experience

This has been one of the most engaging and practical internship experiences I have ever had.I totally enjoyed every moment and liked how accessible supervisors have been to support during this journey. One of the key things I have enjoyed has been the fact that I have had to work with someone from a different environment. And this has been worth it as I learnt a lot from working and concepts on a topic that might be helpful as well for my ongoing school project.I end by appreciating those who gave me an opportunity to be a part of this experience.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I would have enjoyed having more time to give my best as I believe time was not enough for carrying out some of the key components of the research study.

GEI Vietnam

This was a great way to be engaged in global health, virtually! I was unable to do an international rotation in my last year of medical school as I had planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, I learned more than I thought I would about Vietnam in a virtual setting and appreciated the hard work of everyone involved to make this experience as meaningful as possible. It was a once in a lifetime learning experience to collaborate with a student at another university in another country. Would highly recommend!

Clear and impressive

I'm so grateful to join in GEI's activity. It's a great choice for me, I'd learnt many moral lessons, skills which will support me a lots in my future. I had more international friends, new culture and tradition when we talked together, new experiences, new challenges. As a result, I could improve my listening, my speaking and make me more confident. Moreover, when I'd talk with other guys, I talked about my culture, tradition, it's also a chance for me to look back myself , my culture and my country what make me more pround of

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Time is limited. Don't waste and enjoy every moment of life!

GEI - DMU - CTMUP

After one-week online course was successfully completed, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisors Ngoc Thuy and Amy for continuous support my study and bring more experience in practical as GEI, CTUMP and Moine University for giving us an extreme opportunity for me to be a part of the team. Not only have I received the help and support of the advisor but also our teammate through this course, I have achieved plenteous worthy experience that lead me to get an overview in the major that I have already chosen in the impending job. To put myself into a more improvement and analyzing the to-do tasks. Besides, I can improve my English skills as well as how to get teamwork more effective and successful.
In addition, my sincere thanks also go to my friends that include Lydia, Sameen, and Thai Duong who helps me a lot from the very first day of period. Thanks for the direct and heartfelt sharing experience in the pass time to help me better understand my problems, give more helpful advice.
Finally, a deep thank to CTUMP and Moine University for bringing this course into the curriculum without this course these experiences of mine would not have been achievable.
As an obstacle I had to surmount before I got into realistic work, I will strive to gain the skills and knowledge in the most effective way, increasingly improve myself to achieve the goals at work. Hope to continue working together in the future.
Best Regard

Virtual Global Health in Vietnam

I wish this could last longer than just 1 week totally. I used to take part in Virtual internship before, we had 4-week working together, such a great experience as we talked and shared a lot about school stuffs. During 4 weeks, we had enough time to understand more about each other also well-prepared for the presentation.
But the thing I love the most is working as a team. We come from different nations, have specific cultures, much more fun things to talk and get to know. It's hard to say goodbye, but we keep in touch until now, thanks, GEI.

What was your funniest moment?
We have an online farewell party, everyone all in costumes related to a famous person, Amy was the only one burn the stage with her costume in pirate. Coincidentally, it was my birthday too, some of them sang me the birthday song, I was so grateful to that, thanks all.

Virtual Global Health Program in VietNam - GEI (Global engagement Institue) - DMU (Des Moines Univerisy) - CTUMP (University of Medicine and Pharmacy) - Ms. Army, Ms. Thuy, Mr. Waleed, Dr. Tin, CTUMP students

First of all, I would like to thank GEI for creating a wonderful online course for international students and teachers to talk about "Global Health". Thereby, I feel that we do not need to do anything too big, just contributing a small amount of our ability can help people improve their health condion (or social issues) from simple things like "Raising people 's awareness " .
Through the course, I felt that I needed to put more effort into improving my English, my skills, my knowledge and my attitude towards the world. I have had great experiences with international friends, chatting happily even through the laptop screen. I am very happy to have the opportunity to work with wonderful friends like Sameen, Lydia and Minh on our project "Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Efforts in Vietnam" and " Dengue Fever" . Thank you, Ms. Army and Ms. Thuy for connecting Vietnamese and American students. Thanks again to GEI for creating this wonderful course.

What was your funniest moment?
I would like to share about "Session "Global Cafe". At the frist day, I had to prepare some foods and drinks and introducing them to all the member in our group (Ms. Thuy was the host). So, I rode my motobike to by some "street food". the interesting thing is that I don't have have to translate the name of these food into English, I could just tell them about the ingredients and how it tastes. It was really funny. I think I have never forgot these memories

Global Health Program

I would like to send my heartfelt to GEI for giving me this valuable opportunity and my dear manager Amy and Thuy for always being so supportive and dedicated. You guys truly made us feel welcomed and cared for

Speaking of which, GHP is the first virtual course I would say an incredible course I ever had. Despite the different time zone, we work as a real team, mostly on the very first morning or very late at night but everyone has so much energy and always willing to get the mission. Totally fall in love with the course!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw is about Truc-my Vietnamese teammate. Because I had been working with American students before, I kinda knew their enthusiasm working styles. Truc's writing style is awsome, also she texted so fast, while I was trying to correct my spell she and American students have already ended the discussion haha

Vietnam GEI Global Health Experience with CTUMP and Des Moines University

The program far exceeded my expectations for what could be learned about culture and healthcare over Zoom instead of live/in-person. I learned so much about the Vietnamese culture, healthcare, and global health issues that are prevalent in many areas of the world. I feel like after hearing the students speak from Vietnam as well as the students from DMU, global health is definitely gaining awareness and makes me hopeful for changes being made in the future. I can't wait to visit Vietnam and hopefully meet some of the people I was able to meet and work with during this past week!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The only thing I would change about this experience would be to wish COVID away so I could have learned first-hand in Vietnam! :)

Memorable experience

Although the course lasted only a week, I have a very interesting experience. On the first day, I was quite worried about the language problem when I was unable to keep up with what everyone was talking about so I couldn't answer everyone's questions but just listen. But things got better the next day. Thanks to that I learned a lot of things that I never even knew about in Dr.Waleed's wonderful lecture. My teammates are also very friendly and kind. They always ask my opinion about the presentation and are willing to answer my questions when I have any problems. I also learned a lot about their professionalism during group working process. Despite the difference in time zones, we ran into no problems and successfully completed the presentation. Thanks GEI for creating the opportunity for everyone to meet and work together, especially Ms. Thuy and Ms. Amy who supported us throughout the course. Looking forward to seeing everybody in person one day.

What was your funniest moment?
Since I had to study at school all day and the session started in the evening, I only finished a small part of the presentation, and it was midnight and I had to go to bed. The next afternoon when I continued, my teammates finished almost everything. I was surprised at how productive they were and regretted not helping much. Besides, I was in charge of translating the poster into Vietnamese and felt very happy that they felt very interesting when watching me translated it while sharing the screen during the translation process.
